Not sure I like Travel Lodges any more even at £9 night

How could you be sure there would be the rooms you want at the end of the booking? Especially if you have multiple days as well.
once you add a room to the basket it is yours (until you finish your session), so just add anything you think might be suitable to the basket, and then just delete what you dont want anymore, at checkout. But there is always a certain amount of rooms at each price break, so if booking more than one room i would be surprised if by the time you added a £9 one to your basket, that the next room would be more than £19
If going away with friends/family i always tell them before booking, that i might not be able to get £9 rooms, and what price would they be prepared to go up to. we then split the total cost accordingly. If we all get £9 room great, but if not the cost of the higher priced rooms gets shared equally

Have just returned from a two night break. The first night we stayed at a Holiday Inn at a rate of £50.00 for the four of us. The kids had a proper single bed each beautifully made and the room was massive. The £50.00 leisure rate included a complimentary bottle of wine (delicious) and the Holiday Inn had a swimming pool which the kids loved. Also under 12 ate free. Included was a superb breakfast buffet, cereals, continental breakfast and English breakfast with coffee/tea bought to your table.
Second night Travelodge (we have used them extensively so know what to expect). However this one was noisy, poorly insulated from outside noise. The bed was so soft and springy it was a nightmare. The kids pull out settee was grubby as hell. We had to ask for their sheets, duvets etc. Although I paid £19.00 if we added breakfast that would have been another £15.00 and we paid £3.00 for parking so £37.00 in total. However both the OH and I agreed that the extra £13.00 for the Holiday Inn was well worth it.No Matter what you do there will be critics.0 -
I don't know how many of you often book rooms only a couple of days in advance, but this is what I have to do for our drivers. When booked so close TL prices are no cheaper than PI or IL, but their standard is often far lower. However I wouldn't have a problem if it was only £9 a night.0

I don't understand what you mean. I just booked each day separately and now I have four days booked. Do you mean that when I get there, there won't be rooms? I've done this type of booking many times and nothing has ever gone wrong.0

Me and my mate are ex-PI staff and we always stay at TL. Our usual one is London Farringdon, but we have also stayed at Gatwick Airport, and Nottingham Central (who I have to say were an unholy nightmare, the staff were incredibly rude and patronising until me and my mate got hold of the reception manager!!!!!!!) and I myself have stayed in Warrington, Wembley, Nottingham Riverside, Edinburgh, Leicester and Im going to Aldgate East next week.
Most of them we have stayed in have been fine (Edinburgh especially, it had only been open a month when we stayed and not only was it lovely but the staff were brilliant) Warrington was grotty though - lock was stuck on the door and room was dusty - but like others have said, what do you expect for like 19-39 quid?? The Ritz??? You pays peanuts you gets monkeys:rotfl:

Bundly, that was the Leisure Rate, if you look in the Overseas Travel Forum there is an excellent post about how to get Holiday Inn bookings cheaper.(Courtesy of Obukit who deserves post of the month if it still existed). Over the past three months, I have had 2 nights including dinner on one night and breakfast for £99.00 (Salisbury), 2 nights at Bath Holiday Inn Express for £60.00 (the offer is for one night, one night free) and £50.00 for Fareham at Solent. Even if you go on the Holiday Inn website they have offers for £39.00 bed and breakfast just make sure you book clicking on the offer banner. By the way you can also use Quidco! No Matter what you do there will be critics.0

We always stay at Travelodge, London Farringdon being our usual London one, and have always been happy with them. Last summer we couldn't book with them so ended up in a small hotel in Camden, far more expensive than TL yet the room was dirty, the 'continenal breakfast' was cheap cornflakes and orange squash and unhelpful staff. Travelodge is far better even though during our last stay we had a mouse sharing our room, we were moved to a different room on another floor as soon as I complained, I would still rather stay here than the hotel in Camden.0

I think that the general upshot of this thread is that some people have had good experiences and some have had bad experiences.
You could almost substitute the company name for any other large company name and there will be good and bad experiences posted.
For me the £9, £19 and £29 saver rooms offer good VFM which means I can have far more weekend breaks than if I was paying £60 +......0 -

True Dave. But TL seems to be the Ryanair of hotels - cheap but when it's bad it's really bad.
I personally won't entertain staying at TravelodgeAir whether for £9 or full rate. Mrs Viking has said that if we go anywhere it's PI as the bare minimum. The man without a signature.0
