OP get serious and travel south even if it's only Glasgow and you will get a better deal. My brother in law tended to go to London 15 years ago to buy his cars. You will always pay a premium up north.
I agree with Hintza here, cars in Glasgow are much cheaper in both garages and at auctions (have you thought about Auctions?). They are also cheaper up Dunfermline way by a few hundred pounds compared to Dundee where I am if that's any help.
I think it's going to be worthwhile for you to do a weekend of travelling to find your perfect car, and even if you need to stay over night it's going to pay for itself.
As for what I drive, I'm on a 97 plate Mondeo and have had it for 6 years this year and paid £3500 for it with warranty from Arnold Clark here in Dundee. It had 54k miles on the clock and I'm up to almost 79k now and I think the car is now worth about 20p.
Anyway I digress, I've got a friend, who has had a Skoda Octavia and Superb and loved both of them and certainly recommends them both. He bought his cars in Glasgow and I've a funny feeling there is a car supermarket round the area but this is not where he got his cars.0
