There are plenty of Mondingo Ghia X's out there. I'm selling 55 plated stuff from 5500...

What exactly are you going to trade in?

£6500 buys a lot of nice cars these days.

    £6500 for an 05 Ford ?

I paid 5k for a 55 Seat Toledo with same miles.

Ford's are not only 10 a penny, but they're a middle of the road type of marque. For 6.5k get a VW or better.

It is hard to believe you were still considering this car when you knew all about its faults

£6500 for a Ghia X spec round these parts is actually the norm believe it or not. Like I said in the first post we'd been looking for months. Most we saw were £7k. And there are plenty LX models about for a lot less but that's not what we wanted....Ghia X's dont come up that often. We've left our details with garages in the hope they get something suitable in but so far pickings have been very slim.

    (Garage sales btw not private.)

I have no doubt other areas where more competition means keener prices will sell for less but we dont really have the luxury of travelling to view cars miles away.

I'm not saying it isn't, but what I am suggesting is that for effectively a repmobile, for similar money you could buy a "better" more prestigious, better made marque of car.

I think if you want to buy one of these, you'd be just as well off getting onto Autotrader and looking there. You say you haven't got the luxury of travelling, but I went 200 miles to look at a volvo, got the owner to collect me from the station, and returned home in it. Alternatively why not hire a car.More choice will perhaps save you money and save you the cost of the hire car/train fare, if you can get one cheaper.

I've in fact just done you a search on Autotrader for you:

    2005 55 Reg FORD MONDEO 1999 cc 2.0 Ghia X 4dr (trade)- Chertsey - £5272 with 46k on the clock

    2005 05 Reg FORD Mondeo 2.0 Ghia X (trade)Estate - 21k miles, £6500

2006 56 Reg FORD Mondeo 2.0 Ghia X (trade) - 22k on the clock, £7k (sure you could haggle that down). It's got less miles and it's newer than the one you've been offered.

I've also just checked what you could get based on Saloons upto £7k, with less than 40k on the clock, upto 3 years old.

2006 55 Reg SAAB 9-5 2.3T Linear - 27000 miles - £5k. - I have to be honest - I was astounded by this price - shows the state of the market when you can get a Saab for less money than a Mondeo.
    2006 06 Reg PEUGEOT 407 2.0 SE (trade) - 21000 miles - £5.4k
    2006 06 Reg TOYOTA AVENSIS 1.8 VVT-i T3-X 4dr- 37k miles - £5.5k
    2006 06 Reg SUBARU Legacy 2.0 R (trade)- 29k miles - £5.5k
    2006 VOLVO S60 2.0 T S 4dr Saloon - 29k miles - £6500 (miles better car!)

For £6500 you could get yourself a whole array of cars. Good luck.:T

Thanks very much for taking the time to look into all that kiddy guy, I appreciate your help.

We live in the Highlands of Scotland and have issues which mean it's really not practical to travel too far. Not trying to be cagey, just dont want to put any more personal info up.

Also our trade in consists of a car which we have to continually coax into moving and a motorbike...so not the most straightforward of trade ins. A lot of places wont touch bikes.

We have been trying to sell privately but we've had no interest. I know of 2 blokes also in the same boat, their bikes are not moving either so I think people are just not as quick to buy as they once were.

Hence our trading in. However it seems that trading in is narrowing our options a lot so we might have to figure something else out now.

We need a car large enough to fit 5 comfortably (but not an estate) and since the Mondeo seemed to have a good all round reputation, and parts are easily got, it seemed to fit the bill.

I've been looking on the net all morning and have input our car details into a few sites to get an idea of trade in value from other places....£370. :rotfl:

It seems that up here cars sell for more but the trade in values are a little higher also.

I suspect we may have to dump the car, drop the bike price drastically to shift it and borrow more money to buy something outright with no trade in.
