Oh my god, I was going to say morning, but it's afternoon already!
    Afternoon all!

Welcome to Fidget! Another one below me to push me up the list a bit!

Tigster - I would also be concerned about the possibility of slipping in the shower. Not a qualified opinion though, but I would be super careful.

Thanks for the concern about slipping guys ... but installing a bath is not exactly feasible! So at some point, the Bean will have to move from baby bath to shower ... Or should I invest in a large paddling pool? :rotfl:

Obviously I'm going to be sensible - not trying to wash myself at the same time, ensuring the floor isn't slippery, probably sitting down with the Bean when in there ....

Surely I can't be the only first-time Mum who has only had a shower, and not a bath? I can't find the answer yet online or in books, and the midwife isn't interested in seeing me for another 4 weeks.

Tigster, baby would prob be fine in a baby bath for ages but i quite like your innovativeness with the paddling pool - sometimes the simplest thing IS the best!!

ETA: Or whatever happened to the tin baths people used to fill up in front of the fire???

Excuse me posting this here, I've also asked the question on a pregnancy-specific forum too, but I'd be interested to hear the MSE perspective!

We don't have a bath in the house, just a large (wet room) shower. Not a problem for me, and I accept that we'll have to buy a baby bath for the Bean for the first months.

But what does everyone think about taking baby into the shower with me? At what sort of age could I start this, obviously taking care to have the shower at the right temperature and on a gentle flow setting?
we used the shower on Chris to rinse him down from around 6months, I'd think you be fine earlier to be honest tho, only prob we've ever had is if the shower is too powerful it tickles him :rotfl:

EDIT - when we went on our jollies our hotel room had a shower cubicle so we just sat Chris in the tray and put a flannel over the plug so the water sat a bit longer.

I'd just have fingers crossed your bubba is a water baby :D

Have finally found a site that talks about it, seems it's quite feasible once the umbilical stump has dropped, just a matter of being practical and taking note of Bean's reaction ... Still like the idea of a paddling pool though!

How long do baby baths last actually? I haven't really thought about it. My brother and girlfriend are in the same position as they only have a shower. The people who had their flat before them had a baby, so they clearly managed. What about a Bumbo sitting the baby in the shower area and then just using the shower head to rinse them?

Depends on the baby and parent really, I found it a real faff using the baby bath so from about 2 or 3 mths Chris went in the bath with daddy provided he wasn't working away

    Afternoon girlies,

I don't think theres a problem at all. Like you said you can't put a bath in so the shower is the only option.

Babies likes to be a little submerged in water so taking a baby bath in is a good idea and use that as long as you possibly can.

The baby isn't going to stand up anyway until its alot older but it can sit down ! You can also do this you dont have to stand up ..then theres no risk in falling.

I wouldn't even mention it to your midwife to be honest. It's more a health visitor question and even then what are they going to say! You seem to have it sorted already.
