Getting to Stanstead Airport from Euston

Hi

We're travelling down to London from Glasgow by train in about 12 weeks. We're then heading out to Stansted Airport, staying in a travelodge overnight and flying out on holiday for 2 weeks. The advance train fares have just come out for the day before we fly - 2 adults, 2 children and a family railcard = £29.80 which is an amazing price.
When I looked at then getting out to Stansted it's £37.80 which seems crazy. The travelodge is at Great Dunsmore (or something like that) so we still need to get a taxi to the hotel.
What's the cheapest way to get out to Stansted from London Euston? The price I was quoted involves getting the tube to Tottenham Hale then the Stansted express. We are happy to get a local train instead of the express if it's cheaper.

Easybus from Baker Street is the nearest. Or you can take the Tube to Victoria and get either the Terravision or National Express coach

The local train and the Stansted Express are the same price.

As Alan says, coach will be cheaper.
  • Thanks

It seems crazy that 4 of us can travel 400 miles for less than London to Stansted

there is no cheap way to get from London to Stansted, Easybus would be the cheapest option, but again for a family of 4 the cheapest you can get that would be £24 one-way and thats travelling at some awful hour

Add on the cost of a taxi to the travelodge, based on distance i would say at least £10 each way

Might be better to find cheap car hire, as the drive isnt too bad

Welcome to life, south of the border lol

We've looked at flying down with ryanair or easyjet. Because we're taking suitcases it's coming in around £300 for the 4 of us. Our flight is at 9.30am with a 6.30 check in so we need to stay the night before anyway.
We could drive down - we have a car - but I don't really fancy driving back up after a 13 hour flight which is why I was looking at the train. Its only 4.5 hours from Euston to Glasgow and if we're tired and doze off it's not a problem.
Easybus have a maximum fare of £12.99 per person return from Baker Street to Stansted which is ok. The travelodge website says it's about £12 to the airport in a taxi

Stansted airport is just south of cambridge, and is right off the M11.

Im looking at the possibilty of a train route, but i think glasgow brings you down the west coast of england.

Using the train maps, - (Map to rail tracks)

    I would travel -

    Train - Glasgow to Peterborough (4hrs 30mins)
Hotel - Overnight stay in Peterborough
Train - Peterborough to Stanstead Airport (2hrs)

    I'll keep thinking though.
  • The only thing is we need to be at Stansted around 6.30 - 7.00 in the morning so I figure we need to spend the night near the airport

    Hotel at Stanstead.

You dont mentioned what time dates, nor departure / arrival times.

But to stay at this hotel you could be looking at £150-£160 for 2 adults, 2 children for 1 night.
