But for others reading this, simply put "dog cooked bones" into Google and do your own research. There is overwhelming evidence of the harm done to dogs - including death - that results from ingesting cooked bones. They splinter - it's as simple as that. If you want "proof", simply hit a cooked bone with a hammer. The resulting shard-like splinters are what your dog eats.

Do you want to take the risk?

Interestingly enough putting "dog cooked bones" into Google gives a first result showing x-ray of splintered RAW bones in a dogs stomach.
I also got in no particular order:
    Feed raw chicken bones
    Don't feed raw chicken bones
    Cooked bones bad
    Cooked bones OK

Are you saying that raw bones don't splinter?
For every expert saying one thing theres an expert saying another. It's not as simple as cooked bad, raw good.
I would say to people to listen to their vet but they can't agree either.

We tried to get a dial tone but no luck. Which is probably a good thing as I don't want to lug a 3 stone mobile phone around.

I'm pretty sure that cooked bones are fine for a dog as they are sold in pet food stores the nation over (usually beef shins, roasted).
Uncooked chicken bones are fine for dogs, the cooked bones of chickens splinter and aren't good at all for your pets.
A vet once told a close friend of mine that it was a great idea to give your dog a whole, uncooked chicken once in a while. Good for teeth and coat. After all, what do dogs eat in the wild? As far as I know they don't have tin openers or ovens ;)

My lurcher pup LOVES roasted beef bones.

Feeding a dog a raw chicken etc is a much debated issue in the pet world :) Some feed raw quite happily and believe it is the best for their animals...
The way to looks at it: If you didn't feed you dog then would it's meals be cooked or raw? Never yet seen a dog stop to roast a pidgeon or rabbit it's caught...
BTW it's also known as BARF I believe :)
Do cooked bones splinter? Yup... NEVER give a dog or cat a cooked chicken carcass!!!! As for larger bones then yes they too splinter... if you don't believe it then look at the edges of a large bone that has been cooked where the dog has chewed bits off... the bone comes apart as splinters.
