Dog ate my phone

As the title says my dog ate my mobile phone.
I'm covered by both my house insurance and pet insurance.I called my pet insurance first and even though they will cover it they say if it is covered by house insurance I have to claim for it on that. Only problem is that the pet insurance has no excess and will pay out the full cost of replacement and the house insurance has £100 excess. Seems like I would be better off without house insurance cover on this one. Is there any reason why I should not insist on claiming the full amount on the pet insurance or that I can claim the excess that my house insurance doesn't cover from them?
This is the wording on the pet insurance that they seem to be referring to:

If You make a claim and there is any other insurance covering
the same event under which You are entitled to payments,
We will only pay Our proportion of the claim.

Anybody have any experience with this.

Thanks

    Don't want to do that.
When I called the pet insurance people they said to make a claim I would need to send in a picture of the damaged phone (or the phone itself) plus proof that it's not covered by my house insurance. I can't provide that as it is and I don't want to say I have none as they can easily check that.
What I would like is to be able to say that the excess is their resposibility as they say they will cover "our proportion of the claim"

They might be willing to meet half the claim, which might be more cost-effective than losing your NCB on your contents insurance. I think that's where I'd start, anyway.

I really wouldn't want to phone and make a claim using untrue info these days. Your calls are recorded, and if they think there's anything suspect about your call they may want to double check. I believe they have 'stress meters' monitoring your call, which flag up if you're not telling the truth. I don't know how these things work, but a friend had to go through several LONG recorded phone interviews because the insurance company didn't like his account of his motorbike theft. His account was true, but it took him a while to convince him of this. Why? Because he knew where to go and look for his missing bike, because missing bikes round here invariably end up burnt out in the river - and there it was! Although of course they preferred the version which said he'd burned it out to claim on the insurance!

    Is the dog OK? :rotfl:

Bizarre - the first responses to my post have disappeared.

The dogs fine thanks for asking - it'll take more than a phone to stop her :D

Got the claim sorted through my contents cover. They do everything through Dixons so Dixons called me to say they've priced the phone at £300 and the memory card in it at £50 less the £100 excess. I can have a replacement if I pay the excess or £250 of vouchers so I went for the vouchers. They're ripping the insurance off thoush as they advertise the phone on their own website for less than half that amount. Not complaining though and I'm not losing any no-claims bonus as I've only had the insurance for 3 months.

I just find it annoying that as I bothered to take home insurance I'm penalised by my pet insurance. If I was only covered by pet insurance there would be no excess.

maybe the posters decided to delete their posts as you said you didn't want to do some of the things suggested? Or maybe the board guide removed them because at least one of them was suggesting not telling the truth!

Ah, but your pet insurance wouldn't cover you if you dropped the phone into the bath. And your contents insurance wouldn't cover you if next time the dog ate the phone it made her ill. :rotfl:

There's a mint to be made by the first company offering 'all eventualities' insurance. ;)

    Glad you got it sorted.

Well I called Marks and Spencer this morning and explained I'd claimed on my house insurance but the first £100 isn't covered and they said I could claim that from them (or at least they said to send in a claim).

She only ate the phone because she had the humph with my GF who came home from work and then went straight out again for 10 minutes to draw some money to pay my nephew who I've had digging trenches in the garden in the snow (hows that for money saving). Considering I've watched her eat 2 left over lamb shank bones in 10 minutes we got off lightly with the phone. I'm also glad they see a dog deliberately eating something as accidental damage.

    Not cooked I hope

Soft raw bones are fine for a dog, but cooked bones splinter and can result in tiny needle like shards. These can pierce the intestines and cause irreperable damage and even death.

Never let a dog near cooked bones!

If they like bones, give them raw chicken - wings are excellent or ask the butcher for bones from around the brisket (beef) as these are chewable.

I hope they were cooked. The restaurant never said it was Lamb Shank Tartare :D

The way she chews things she could splinter jello

You might have wanted the bones cooked .... but it's potentially lethal for your dog.

Either get him raw bones or take the risk of expensive and excrutiatingly painful damage - or even death. Your choice.

DFC (whose dog only eats raw meaty bones) :p

Fine by me - your dog is YOUR responsibility.

But for others reading this, simply put "dog cooked bones" into Google and do your own research. There is overwhelming evidence of the harm done to dogs - including death - that results from ingesting cooked bones. They splinter - it's as simple as that. If you want "proof", simply hit a cooked bone with a hammer. The resulting shard-like splinters are what your dog eats.

Do you want to take the risk?
