4x4 Vehicles - Should they be banned from Town/City Centres

What I find ridiculous is that I used to drive an LPG Range Rover into London every day. I didn't have to pay any congestion charge on it (due to being LPG) but Martin has to pay it on his little smart car.
Now correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the word congestion more associated with size than pollution?Debt in 1993: £35,000 | Debt in 2006: £0 | Assets in 2006: £2.3m and counting. :j

There is no upper, middle or lower class. Simply those that have class and those that don't.0 -
I'm confused - is this a discussion about safety, environmental issues or a class war ?0

I thought it was the first two, but I suspect that for a lot of people it will be the last issue (don't forget that jealousy, envy, snobbery and good old fashioned spite are still very prevelant in Britain)

How flamin rude!!!! I (a woman!) dive a Mitsubishi L200. I do the school run in it no problems. I am a very safe driver and am fully aware of road safety.
It is not rude at all, how can the truth be rude
I see you have the L200, do you mind me asking how often you use the flat bed for its intended purpose, do you carry building materials, do you carry alot of steel, or has the cover even come off. Or is it just you saw the Warrier style car and wanted one.
Also why drive to school, we have a car and dispite living miles away from school we walk everyday, and I am pick sick of people storming down the road (because they have a big meanty car they of course own it) without due care. Our school is down a narrow lane and on any given day I see at least 10 4x4s (our school has tried asking these people to park away from the school but no such luck which to me shows a blatent disregard for others) rangeing from a suzuki Jimmy to Range rovers and Porsche Cayenne.
There really is no need for them at all unless for business use.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -

Hi I wanttosave
It must be nice to have the time/inclination/health/waterproofs to walk miles and miles every day when you could drive it in a fraction of the time. I bet your as fit as a butchers dog doing all that walking !
I don't want to fan the flames (too much), but is it only 4x4 drivers that drive /park in an inconsiderate way by your school, or do others have a similar disregard for you (& your family) as pedestrian/s ?
MTC
p.s. Intel thanks for the PM. I can see where you are coming from now.
Didn't get the Tory Party reference though.0 -
To tell you the truth I dont have the time to walk to school, I work, but I always think why drive while I have a pair of legs, plus I don't want my kids to become lazy and obese like the rest of the kids nowerdays. Most winter mornings I hate the walk to school, but druring it, I get the chance to talk and sing and have fun with my son, how many that drive can say they can do that, if they can I think they are not paying that much attention to the road.
It is mainly 4x4s that have this inconsideration, I see every morning the "I'm bigger than you, we do as I say" attitude, and whilst there maybe the ocasional mum who cant parrallel park her punto, they are on the whole more courtious and considerate. I am not oppsed to 4x4 so long as they are used for the correct manner, in the correct environment which is a builders yard or a farm.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -

What has the cleanliness of Mrs Farmer's Land Rover got to do with anything ?
And why should Mrs Farmers looks have anything to do with it either ?
MTC
are you purposely missing the point? There is a big difference between a farmer's vehicle and a flashy 4x4. A farmer uses his vehicle for work purposes, a sloane ranger uses their's for status. That's the difference.
As for jealousy, that's what all snobs say when they are criticised :rotfl:
And finally (!!!) iwanttosave should be praised for walking and not driving.

That's worring because all my vans are blue as well and i live in the lakes ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
p.s. i don't think they should be banned , but i believe parents should be banned from driving to school if they live less than 15 minutes walk away.....The futures bright the future is Ginger0 -
My views on this mater are the same as wantys.
I drive big car, so I aint against the size of a vehicle. I very rarely take our kids to school, due to the fact that I start work early, but when I doYou cannot move for 4x4's and there all wemen. Yes it is a narrow road and even smaller cars struggle to go up and down it, but then you get parents who decide to use there big 4x4's to pick the kids up.
Watching them go up and down the road is like watching a circus, and watching them turn them round is even better. Half of them look as if the would find it hard to do in a Fiesta, no mind a Range Rover or something os similar size.
I belive that cars such as these should be be owned by people that would use them for a purpose. Such as carrying building materials/equipment or for farm use. Are are a few exceptions, people that live in the counryside or in area where there it is need should be aloud to have them.People that live in the city shouldn't have them, they have no need for them. They use them as a status symbol, or for them to make them feel better than others.
Some people would them say but "I have dogs", all I can say to that is get an estate or a good sized hatch back.I maybe flirtatious. So please bare with me.:D0
