4x4 Vehicles - Should they be banned from Town/City Centres

cheers Intel, I've reread your posts, but I am struggling with some of your thinking.
Farmers can have them, but Mrs Farmer presumably can't go shopping or take her kids to school in it, does she have to get another car to do so.
What damage do they cause on the roads to justify paying over twice the road tax ?
Big chunky tyres that excessively grip the road ? you mean like the tyres on my van that stop it sliding off the road ?
Honda CRV - whats the problem there ? It's smaller than a Mondeo and the 4 weel drive only comes on when traction is lost. Perhaps your brother thinks your a ............ as well.
I just don't like the ugly things, fair do's, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but looks isn't a reason to have them banned.
But then again, neither are any of your other points.
So I'm no nearer seeing why you think that they should be banned.

p.s. I don't have a 4x4 and they have no appeal to me.
p.p.s all of my vans are blue before anyone posts about white van man0 -
Obviosly you really didnt read my posts hard enough.

Hi Intel
I fully support your campaign to rid the roads of
volvo drivers (but for me it would be BMW drivers)
glove wearers
hat wearers
side light users
people with spinners &
beard wearers.
I can understand you not liking the looks of some 4x4's, but if you're going to ban vehicles on looks there are other contenders as well.
The link you provided was interesting. I read it that small vehicles are inherently dangerous in an accident and that you owe it to your family to protect them and get them into something bigger than a Fiat Panda.

p.s the final paragraph made me laugh. A Range Rover is TINY comapred to the monster SUV's that the Americans love.0 -

Hi fattyrae1
What has the cleanliness of Mrs Farmer's Land Rover got to do with anything ?
And why should Mrs Farmers looks have anything to do with it either ?
MTC0 -
So Mrs Farmer will be banned from driving the land rover into the town to buy things?
Fine, so she uses the car... until winter comes and the roads are unpassable with snow. What must she do then?0 -

Ah your not undrstanding the argument with this kind of statement
cars have been around on our roads since the day dot, SUV's have not
and thus they are not a nessecity as much as the car.Murphy_The_Cat wrote:glove wearers

I know your kidding here.Murphy_The_Cat wrote:I can understand you not liking the looks of some 4x4's, but if you're going to ban vehicles on looks there are other contenders as well.
They are ugly in respect of what they represent, a menace to pedestrians.Murphy_The_Cat wrote:The link you provided was interesting. I agree a reasonably sized car is a better option.0 -
Hi Intel
OK, I've had a bit of fun with you.
Have I got this right.
You are quite happy to allow "working" 4x4's on the roads.
You want to ban SUV's. (you still haven't given me a good case for doing so yet, but that 's your perogative). A great many of the Ban SUV's arguements seem to be based in jealousies of people showing off their wealth etc (not saying that's your thinking by the way).
the things about banning hat wearers etc was taken from one of your posts when you were agreeing with Nelly.
I don't see what you mean by "they are ugly by what they (4x4's/SUVs) represent" - what do they represent to you. To me it's that people have chosen a 4x4 to buy and drive. full stop . end of sentance. In the same way that I might think that Intel has bought a red car(or blue or green).
I still can't see where the menace to pedestrians bit comes in. Where I live (in the Lake District) we have about the highest percentage of 4x4's on the roads in Britain and I certainly don't feel menaced by them while I'm out walking (menaced by morons on bikes that insist on going on the pavement, yes). No problem to me / my family from big vehicles.
To me a reasonably sized car would be one to keep my family safe in - not one that someone else would be suitable for me. Thankfully we are still free to choose what suits us best in Britain.
I suspect that you and I aren't going to agree on this one much.

I like my 4x4 , I like the feeling of power I get on the motorway. I like the comfort it provides coupled with safety . We worked dammed hard to pay for it , so surely it is my choice if we use in the country , or poodle down to the shops in it ?0
