How flamin rude!!!! I (a woman!) dive a Mitsubishi L200. I do the school run in it no problems. I am a very safe driver and am fully aware of road safety.0 -
SVM wrote:Sorry but I disagree with everything you say. After all, who buys a car based on its "pedestrian safety"? Should we ban buses, lorries and vans too while you're at it?!
And what do we do about speeding cars in the cities? They may be more "pedestrain friendly" but not when they are doing 40mph in the cities/towns!
I buy a car based on ease of getting in and out (bad back), practical space for dogs and bikes and fuel economy.
I suspect those who buy vehicles based on their "pedastrian friendly" are in the absolute minority. I suppose next I will be hearing the car dealers praise cars for their "pedeastrian freindliness"! It won't happen as that is not what interest drivers.
I'm not belittling any potential accidents or injuries to pedastrians. I think speed is the issue, along with improved driver concentration - and not the design of the car.
Good point.
Even Honest John says the only way to live with speedbumps is to buy a 4X4.
If human nature somehow got reprogrammed so that everyone was careful, courteous and thoughtful, there'd be no need for speed limits, zigzags on zebra crossings, speedbumps and 4X4s which never venture offroad.
Life would be safer for all, but rather boring; all the Victor Meldrews would be twiddling their thumbs!
Until that time, we have to do what we think is right by ourselves and family.
Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.0 -
let's also ban:
5th and 6th Gear - most of you don't use them anyway, as you're driving around town.
Sunroofs - you don't need them.
Aircon - if you can prove that you really need it and that the temperature averages over 27degrees all year round then you may have it. If we can't have 4-wheel drive for the 2 months of slippery conditions, you can't have cool air for the 2 months of hot weather. Air-con also saps your MPG's so anyone using it should be shot in the head.
4 Doors - 2 is enough, you can climb through to the back. This alone will save the planet as each car will require only half the amount of hinges, thus reducing the strain on our metal reserves.
Leather seats - unfair to cows.
Traction Control - if you need this then you drive like an idiot and can't be trusted to own a motor vehicle.
Electric Windows - something wrong with your arms?
(Sorry, this was a quote from earlier (not my opinion) - didn't show up as one!)
Please refer to my previous post. :rolleyes:I like my money right where I can see it - hanging in my closet.;)0 -

I will take it off road (minor off roading up to the OH's farm where she keeps her horse) but it is all about the look. I am a carefull and usually considerate driver but people will always have a problem with a big 4x4 not entirly sure why they just do.
At the moment there is nothing that would convince me not to get one. Everyone has the freedom to make their own choices it's what makes individual.
I wouldn't have a go at someone who spent over £300k on a sports car when that kind of money could feed plenty of familys in the third world. or have a go at people who drive small town cars and consistently weave in and out of traffic cutting people up.
Not all drivers are the same and you should have the right to express yourself in any part of your leife wether it be your clothes, hair or the car you drive.I like my money right where I can see it - hanging in my closet.;)0 -
We have a Frontera diesel and around town it does around 30-35 mpg My sister in law has a micra that does 35 mpg.I don't have a bull bar,I can fit it into a parking space no probs,I have never (touch wood)been in an accident,I drive safely why am I a menace?
I think that chav boy racers in their souped up saxo's doing 60 in a thirty zone, blasting music out on a seven grand stereo to be more of a menace.bye hoo0 -

No, it's peoples choice if they want to pay that much.
If the main issue is the environment, why don't people put more effort into getting ancient cars off the road instead that aren't at all fuel efficient and do a good job of polluting. 4x4's are increasingly more ecological than they first were, which can especially be seen at recent car shows where hybrid 4x4's were a large feature of things to come.0 -
Spot the people who own 4x4's!!!!I like my money right where I can see it - hanging in my closet.;)0
