champys, there's a recipe for steamed oriental buns in post 4 (ish) of the grocery challenge, I think these are what youre after. My son loves them, you can stuff them with anything and only need a tiny amount of something highly flavoured. DS likes pork in bbq sauce. If you cant find the recipe pm me and I'll type it out for you. HTHEat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0

I love this food blog, and she's posted her recipe for char siu buns:
http://www.gastronomydomine.com/2006/11/char-siu-bao-chinese-steamed-pork-buns.html
only difference is that hers are not 'smiling buns'. You need a very hot steamer to achieve that!0 -
My husband loves Char Sui pork, can you please tell me how to make it Kwai? This thread is really fantastic, I love Chinese/Asian food and I am sure it is pretty healthy compared to our usual British diet!
I will be printing out these recipes for my recipe folder.
Thanks again Kwai for sharing with us. :T0 -
I do hope we haven't scared him away.Jaytin - if you follow the link in baby fuzz's post above there is a recipe for char sui pork, too!0

Not sure about the 'sauce flour' though, will ordinary flour not work?"Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0 -
I would love to know how to make the spicy chicken sezchuan.
Another of my OH favourite dishes he loves the hot sauce and crunchy veg.
It's the one in the orangey/red spicy sauce with chicken or beef and onions, peppers and i think celery.
I don't like it lol burns the mouth of me i am a woose with spicy food
Szechuan chicken is a slightly hot slightly sour based dish that tastes exotic.
SZECHUAN CHICKEN
Make up the chicken coating by beating together 2 egg whites with 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 1 teaspoon of chilli powder.
Slice up 2 slice chicken breasts and dip each piece into the chicken coating.
Put the chicken in a hot wok with enough peanut oil to virtually deep fry the chicken. Carefully place the chicken into the hot oil and remove once the coating has turned brown. Place the chicken on some kitchen roll or oil drain.
In another hot wok put the following ingredients in and stir together:
1 tablespoons of sesame oil
1 tablespoon of rice wine
1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons of Tabasco sauce
1 teaspoon of malt vinegar
1 teaspoon of soy sauce
1 tablespoon of brown sugar
1 sliced bird's eye chilli
Slice up 1 sweet orange pepper and 1 spring onion and add to the sauce. As the sauce begins to simmer add the chicken and stir for another minute then serve immediately.
At first it seems like a lot of ingredients but it's actually quite simple to make.Kwai Chi

I'm not sure what the other dish is. It sounds a little like sweet and sour hong kong style but let me know if it's different.Kwai Chi

I would like an authentic recipe for san choi bao, please - not managed to find a recipe that turns out quite right yet.
This small dish is sometimes served for Dim Sum and sometimes for starters and is similar to a Korean barbecue.
SAN CHOI BAO
Heat up a hot wok with 1 teaspoon of peanut oil.
Add 400g of Aberdeen Angus minced beef and break it up into small bits using a sharp bladed spatula.
Then add:
1 finely chopped garlic
3 spring onions
1 teaspoon of sesame seeds
1 sliced sweet green pepper (halve lengthways then slice widthways)
A handful of beansprouts
Stir for about 5 minutes or until the beef is cooked through and then serve into large lettuce leaves (The rounder the leaf the better).Kwai Chi
