My husband hasn;t come to any except ones connected with emergencies (when I was bleeding).

They are dullsville and he won;t be able to do anything. Go on your own.

my hubby came to my booking appt at the hospital but it was also the 12 week scan so he wanted to be there for that, everyone in the waiting room had their other half with them to be honest.
they did ask a lot about family history, illnesses etc so it did help for him to be there too.
I have been for bloods etc since and he didn't go as not worth him taking the time off for that or for my 4 weekly checks with the midwife.
    Good luck!

My husband came to my booking in appointment and although it was a bit boring, he was still really glad he went and helped him feel part of it all. And it was really useful having him there when it came to questions about his family's medical history.

He also came to the last two scans which he really enjoyed. But we decided that it wasn't worth him going to my consultant appointment and my next midwife appointment. However, having just had both, I think it would have been better for him to be there so he could have heard the consultant's opinion and not my (biased) interpretation of it and at the midwife appointment, he would have heard the baby's heartbeat :) So I think he wants to try and get along to as many appointments as he can from now.

By being at the appointments, he will get to hear snippets of information that he may not hear otherwise (you may forget to pass something on or feel that it is too minor or whatever) and it also gives him the chance to ask any questions he wants.

Good luck at your first appointment whatever you decide!

My OH did come to the scans with me - and he has heard the heartbeat at home using our doppler so no need for him to come to the MW although he came to the GP with me while I was under consultant care for bleeding and he heard it there too.

I always say he can come if he wants, but he works and isn;t bothered about coming and seeing me hand over a wee sample!

I'd say it depends on the practicalities, your DH's work etc. Mine would have had to take a half day's holiday each time and TBH it wasn't worth it. I had pretty straightforward pregnancies (2) and as Skintchick said, the appointments could have been summed up as "handing over a wee sample". It made more sense to take that time off after the babies were born.

Obviously he came to the scans though. :)

We are used to people turning up with their partners and on their own , and so either is OK. Just ensure that if he is not coming with you that you know about any family medical history on his side. The first appointment is a lot of talking and basline observations and bloods - and so nothing to see or hear - unless you are further on.

My husband came to all the appointments with me. At the first it was helpful to have him there for details of his families medical history etc. He wanted to come to hear the heartbeat at subsequent appointments. Other things to think about are when they take blood you might need 'looking after" I have never had a problem with giving blood but during pregnancy when they took blood I went faint and needed someone with me. Also when your pregnant you can get 'cotton wool brain' and I found DH would remember word for word what she had said whereas I would forget most of it! ha ha. Obviously personal choices but I wouldn't have had it any other way, maybe i'd feel different with baby no. 2...3...4...5 etc :D
