help needed! i'm very confused!
i recently moved into a property, and looked into geting a land line and internet access. there was a bt landline in the flat so i got this connected.
i spoke to talktalk who had a really good offer but said i would have to pay them line rental as well as bt, i rang bt to cancel the line i had with them and they said i had signed up to a minimum of 12 months, despite only having the line connected for 6days there was no cooling off period so i would owe them for the remainder of my contract which was 11 months!!
is my only option to have b/band through bt!?!? (it seeem to be the most expensive to me)
please help!

No your not restricted to BT Broadband most ISP will provide you with Broadband on a BT Line.
Have a read of http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/cheap-broadband for some ideas.0 -
If you have Sky you can get broadband for £5 per month.0

TalkTalk only offer broadband in conjunction with line rental (although you can take the phone service with your existing line rental from BT). Another reason for not going with TalkTalk.
Have a look on samknows.com and see which operators are currently offering an LLU service on your local exchange, These are the ones that will probably be the most competitive.
If you have been reconnected by BT, then this contracts you to 12 months line rental and whatever phone package you agreed to.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hello there,
If you are in contract with BT then Macmans recomendation of an LLU provider would mean paying cessation fees to BT as your service with them would be ceased. TalkTalk offer stand alone broadband but it is not competitively priced so I wouldn't recoment taking that TBH.
If you have a mobile phone it may be worth looking at some of the packages offered by mobile providers without the need for you to transfer line rental to them. Could be worth a look here to see whats available for you.
Cheers

I don't follow that, Emma. For example, the OP could take their broadband from o2 (as you mention possible packages from mobile suppliers, this seems the obvious example). Even when this is available on an o2 LLU exchange, you still keep your line rental with BT, (or whatever line provider you use) because o2 do not offer landline phone services.
TalkTalk's standalone broadband is extremely well hidden, so I'm not surprised that most people end up taking line rental as well.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hi Macman,
There is a difference between full and partial LLU so the OP needs to be careful that any LLU services they take will enable them to keep a BT line for their line rental to avoid any cessation fees. TalkTalk is full LLU and therefore means moving line rental and call services as well as broadband.
As I said - TalkTalk stand alone broadband is not competitively priced - only when taken with line rental or as part of an LLU package does it become a more atractive prospect.
Cheers

You are missing the point Emma. The OP can go to o2 for their broadband but their line rental remains with BT. If you keep your line rental with BT, cessation charges are not relevant.
I would be interested to know the TalkTalk definition of 'partial LLU'?No free lunch, and no free laptop

Be/O2 = BB only LLU. Both highly recommended. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

Thats exactly what I said Macman! If the OP takes a parital LLU service (broadband only) then they would still have line rental with BT and therefore no cancelation fees.“Official Company Representative

Hi
I use plusnet for my broadband connection and I use a bt landline the deals for plusnet are pretty reasonable depending on which areas you live in but give them a try as I found a package for 11.99 with 10gb download usage on 18 month contract. www.plusnet.com0
