Netgear/wireless problem - anyone know why?

I had this problem once and it was because I had it configured as using encryption using a passphrase when I should have done it using WEP.

all the advice is great BUT at least 4 or 5 netgear routers have built in Trend Micro AV firewall and AV software... which COULD conflict with any firewall on te machine and thus block the internet access

you need to identify:

is this a problem with wireless
or a problem with your router not connecting with your isp
or some other windows config issue (ie settings dhcp etc)

I suggest connecting it with an ethernet cable first, connect the phone lead back into the router, and then do a

start run cmd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

and carry out the tests mentioned in my first post.
