The street level mapping coverage in the west of France shows everything to the north and west of Nantes roughly(it actually goes a little bit futher south and east!).
The Garmin came in handy this weekend.
We drove off the ferry at Calais, and being a true money saver needed to fill up with diesel at French prices pronto.
We headed towards Dunkirk, did'nt spot the filling station near Eastenders(dropped in there on the way back)so after about 10 miles switched on Sat nav,and asked it for the nearest.
The trip computer was indicating we had 10 miles left before running out at this stage. So it sent us off the main road to one in the countryside about 3 miles away.
After travelling 3 miles it said"In 4 miles turn left"! I was about to chuck it out of the window, then it lost the sattelite, then came back with "In 0.7 miles arrive at destination"
Like an Oasis we spotted a rural Elf garage which by luck was open(sunday morning) and filled up at 1 euro a litre or 67p.
A good find, getting back on the dunkirk duel carridgeway the BP garage was 1.14 euro.
Got over the Belgian border and the garmin lost the mapping but still guided you by main roads and sent you "southwest" or suchlike at junctions instead of say turn left. But still came in useful.
Had a great day in Ypres, fags and diesel generally cheaper in Belgium, trip was for four of us,two rooms at Canterbury Travelodge @£10 each and return crossing for £10 for car+4 via news of the world/P&O offer.
We would have been stranded without the sat nav,as the first garage on the dual carridgeway we spotted was too far.

I brought mine from Halfords today for £130.

I've had a Tomtom 700 for a while from a friend but those people who are wondering what the difference is between Tomtom and this Garmin I3 Cheapo here it comes.

Yeah if u wanna slightly better Sat Nav go for the TomTom range but In my eyes the Garmin i3 is much better value for money its got a smaller screen but with the voice telling you where to go Why look at the screen ? Touch Screen buttons on Tomtom are a nightmare when driving (I know u shouldnt do it but people do) the garmin u just flick the wheel.

So save yourself £100+ and get a garmin I3 or wait as a new range of Tomtoms (510,710 and 910) are about to hit the market in April some time this should bring the price of the old ones down quite a lot.

Dont get me wrong the Tomtoms are very good but for £130 against £250 for a tomtom one there is no contest.

Just got Garmin i3 for Father in law (Halfords £129 as Staples no longer had in stock etc). It's an excellent little bit of kit for the novice GPS user.

I've got a Quest and can not rate it high enough. If ever you need help you can just ring Garmin in the UK and speak to people who understand the product - they even are the guys/gals who repair them.

GARMIN EXCELLENT Product excellent company - customer support best ever!
Me i'm always after a good deal.. :rotfl:

saw garmin i3 at braehead today for £99.+change. Also had them in smaller newton mearns shop.
They still had loads of navman 520 as well for £150- but prices being on show was patchy.
I'm thinking of taking back the navman i just got and exchanging it for this.
