At the end of the day, you`re right it is a bit petty, but at the same time you telling us how hard it is to make a living is really petty to me.0

To be fair, I cannot really get involved in saying how hard it is as OH is very busy, but I can understand how hard it is at the moment for some tradespeople - If you werent very established before this recession started for instance. If your work mainly comes from word of mouth, then you are probably doing OK.
It is quite annoying though when customers think that all the money they pay out goes into the pocket of the person they pay it to. When you run a reputable business and pay out all the correct tax and insurances, it simply doesnt.
And I really would like to think it was a perk of the job to have a nice house - but you ask the wife of any builder/joiner/electrcian etc. I bet they only have a half finished house (like mine) !0 -

Unless you are self-employed, you are likely to get paid holidays, so when you work at home, you will be getting paid for it. My hubby is out working today - I would much rather he was finishing my extension that he started last October
Your lucky, took me 10yrs to build some fitted wardrobes...
Its a nice day down South, sunny, nice day for working outside.Ive just finished my accounts for 2008-9.Just compared to last year and Im down by about 10%.Had a busy year too.Ive been established and Im also busy ,but a lot of good people aren't0 -
Why don`t you keep some of your fellow tradesmen in work by getting them to finish your extension..0

Or is it that they charge too much..0

We have lived here 3 years and there has been a piece of skirting 3M long missing from my bedroom since the day we moved in
My extension actually currently consists of a shell - I have half a kitchen and you have to walk over a piece of wood to go outisde - he has promised me it will be finished by Xmas (I await with baited breath WHICH Xmas:D)
But also I take my hat off to you if you do all the books yourself - I work at least 30 hours a week for our business - there is no way that OH could do all of that as well ! the PAYE, CIS and VAT alone take hours!0 -

Getting back on track a bit, May and July will see another generation of school leavers looking to for work.Given that some would like a career in the industry and the fact that more small to middle sized companies are going "pop" who will give the youngsters the "on site" training that is crucial????.
Surely the government must see there is and has been a massive problem ,its all very well giving people an NVQ within the classroom but as any tradesmen will tell you they all learned far more from the on site experience.0 -
Can`t see what all the moanings about then0
