Its about time, over the past decade wages in some trades has just been ecessive(and thats a understatment) how long do these tradesmen think this level of labour charges could continue, the bubble had got to burst, the times I have heard these tradesmen bragging of thier income, nobody wants to hear thier whinging..

How true is that. We pay £600 per year business rates for the rent of a shed, YES A SHED to store wood and some small machines.

Yep same here, its a concrete box, no windows just a roller shutter door, approx 1045 sq feet....we pay £700 a year..............

    RIP OFF BRITAIN........

    One up on who?

It is no more 'free' to a tradesperson as it is to anyone else. If your tradesperson is working at home he isnt getting paid for work. You dont get paid holidays!

The use of tools and equipment??? how is that 'free' ?? if materials are bought and paid for through a business you can't just use them on your own home - I think the tax man would have something to say about that!

So in the grand sceme of life an accountant using his pen for writing a letter at home is a big deal, bit petty don't you think...?

If I need to bring a drill home to use is that really a big deal??? come on think about it.Like most self employed I dont use materials on my home and claim the tax back for the simple reason is its just not worth it.
To make it worth doing tax wise id need to use £kkkk,s of pounds worth and YES the tax man would find out as they're not stupid. If you do get checked up on by the tax or VAT man you have to show receipts for nearly everything, including the nice new French doors...

Its as Lifeisbut has said , being self employed is not just carrying out your choice of work, its also the pricing, the accounts, VAT, invoicing and thats all before you even get paid for the work...People tend to pay you 30 days from date of invoice and depending on when the invoice is dated and your VAT quarter ends you also pay the VAT before you get paid.....
Yes I chose my profession and I enjoy it but It isn't easy and theres not "big pot of gold" at the end of it.

Why would you have to buy tools? there are plenty of places you could rent them from - or try being nice to one of these rich builders and they might lend you something ;)

Unless you are self-employed, you are likely to get paid holidays, so when you work at home, you will be getting paid for it. My hubby is out working today - I would much rather he was finishing my extension that he started last October :o
