is this since you changed some settings? I had the same problem with my linksys router, and it turned out i needed to change some settings in windows so i could get onto the network..
The linksys router instructions are completely useless... I can't beleive how crap they were for a product that was supposed to be for home users :mad:0 -
Thanks for all your help.
I did a reset and got the router working OK with my desktop pc.
The problem I have now is I am getting an error message from my laptop when trying to access the net.
It says "You might not be able to access the internet or some network recources because the network did not assign a network address to the computer"I have been on to my IP and they suggest my wireless laptop is not "seeing" the router.
Can anyone help me with this one? After all the hassle it seems I am so close to finally getting this working.
Thanks

Make sure your laptop has auto IP setup.
Try running cmd from the run prompt and type this (from your laptop)
ipconfig /all
Copy and paste the ifo back to here.......Have you tried rebooting the laptop with the router powered up?0 -
OK I have now managed to cut and paste it.
Here it is.

All of it is important and will help to trace the problem. Right-click the command window and click Select All and press Return. The screen is now in your clipboard buffer and you can paste it. You might have to scroll the window and copy and paste twice to get the whole of the listing. (I see you have pasted most of it now.)cslogg wrote:T4i,I have run cmd as you suggested but cannot seem to cut and paste it.
What part of ipconfig/all is tghe important part?
Click Start - Control Panel - Network Connections. Right-click Wireless Network Connection and click Properties. On the General tab, where it says 'This connection uses the following items:' scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), select it and click Properties. On the General tab, make sure 'Obtain an IP address automatically' and 'Obtain DNS server address automatically' are both selected. Click OK all the way out.cslogg wrote:How do I turn on Auto IP setup?
Now right-click Wireless Network Connection and click Repair.0 -
Chippy,
I had already done that, thats when I received the earlier error message.
It also said that Windows could not renew my IP address.

ok then....
try opening cmd again and use these
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /all - copy and paste info again.....
Your laptop isn't picking the correct IP's up......Is your desktop on the same network as 169.254.174.97?
I bet not!0 -
The IP address range 169.254.xxx.yyy is regarded as a Private IP Address Range, which tends to be assigned when DCHP hasn't worked properly. Read All About It in the linked article!

The 169.254.x.x address means that the wireless communication between your laptop and the router has failed and Windows has assigned a default IP address. The IP address should be 192.168.x.x.cslogg wrote:Autoconfiguration IP Address. . . : 169.254.174.97

Do you have any wireless security enabled on the router? Or broadcast of SSID turned off? Try disabling security and enabling SSID broadcast for now. This article has some good diagnostic checks.0 -
Lucky you cslogg, I've been working on mine for a week now and I can't even get the router to be recognised by the computer anyway, the purpose of this post is twofold :-
(1) To let you know that there's a freephone tech support line (if you didn't already know) 0800-026-1418
(2) To enable me to keep track of this thread so that if ever I get to the stage that you're at now (which is highly unlikely), I'll know the answer.0
