Hi,

My girlfriend dropped her phone on the floor and smashed the screen. Although it still works, the glass has shattered.

Im not sure whether i can claim on Orange Emergency Insurance Care?
Haven't called yet, but was wondering if I went to a shop do you rekon i could get it replaced. And if i did would the warranty still be hounoured?

These phones do go wrong, this is her second and my third.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Screen smashing validates the warranty, Try claiming off the insurance.

if its the LCD screen, then they most probably won't do anything and charge you a lot to replace the LCD.

however, if its the plastic part (screen lens) over the top of the screen it should only be a few pounds to replace

Does anybody knows how much a claim on the Orange Emergency Care costs for a C905?

    JP86,

What do you and your girlfriend do with them; juggle on stone floors?

Check out the merits of claiming for accidental damage on your house contents insurance and be apprised of the financial position in regard to that before you get on to Orange and negotiate.

Remember that in an economy in which more people in Britain are defaulting and even going bankrupt every day, Orange will be anxious to retain a customer who will hopefully be paying them money for years to come. It won't cost Orange as much to replace or repair the 'phone as it would you or your insurance company and the cost of it will rapidly be recouped by them if you continue to avail yourself of its service.

You could further point out to them that if the 'phone is no longer usable you'll have to reduce to the lowest tariff available to you until you next become available for a 'phone upgrade and they won't be making any money from you arising from roaming and other profitable services in the meantime.

If you encounter an obdurate response from whomever you speak to at Orange, try again later and hope you get someone more sympathetic.

It's worth sampling the mood at your local Orange shop before you get on to the 'phone. Try to pick someone with a kindly disposition, there, and discuss what's possible with the right approach.

It's not like you're just being greedy and want a shiny new 'phone as an upgrade when your old one is still fine. They'll understand that.

Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:

As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

lol juggle phones. No they've all had the same problem to be honest, the earpiece seems to go faulty randomly between 3-10 weeks.

Thanks for the advice though. JP

Just spoke to orange, says its nothing to do with them. Surprise, Surprise...
Might just get it sorted at a normal shop.

You would get it done cheaper at an independent phone shop. Replacing an LCD is a straightforward and simple repair, you could so it yourself with a minimum of tools if you wanted.

last time i checked carphone warehouse charged about £40 to replace an LCD
orange you would have to try for emergency care, its a one off fee of either £30 or i think £70 (if it is in a higher band of handset) and then you would be charged insurance at £6pm
if it is just the screen i'd say just get that replaced, but i wouldn't get it though an independent store but someone authorised by SE/orange otherwise if you tried to get it fixed for something else which is covered they may say you've invalidated your warrenty

the stores have absolutely nothing to do with insurance claims all they can do is put you through on the phone, the insurance dept would send out the phone (usually next day delivery) you wouldn't be able to take one from the store, the staff are unlikely to discuss it with you, considering if they gave you the impression it would be covered and when you called it wasn't...

I thought it was £70, but it's certainly around that. Might not be worth it if you can get it replaced elsewhere.

In all fairness, I don't think Orange can particularly be blamed for not being sympathetic. It's an expensive handset, and whilst it would be a nice gesture to help you out, it shouldn't be expected. At the end of the day your girlfriend was careless enough to drop a £350+ phone on the floor and break it. Responsibility has its own part to play.
