lol no he's a Geordie (so almost foreign I guess?)- no offence intended to anyone from up there!
I'm half Canadian so my children have citizenship through me (although we had to get their certificates sent off for this year as they changed all the application rules in April). I wanted to make sure they had their dual citizenship as it's their right to have it. Whether they ever choose to use it, we'll see.....it was a pain to apply for and get all the correct sized photos etc., but like most things like this, it's worth doing - even if you do have to wait a lifetime to get the paperwork back!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

We intend to apply for citizenship for all of us, but as we don't live there it gets even more complicated.
I definitely think it's worth doing though

I really feel for the OP, I have been through many sleepless nights with regards to visa's and the immigration laws. However, when it came to applying for British Citizenship, and also ILR, our application seemed to get sorted very quickly (I was very, very surprised!). We got my husbands British passport back 1 week after submitting the application, and I think his ILR took about 6 weeks in total.
I wish the OP the best of luck, and I am sure that all will be resolved soon, just keep calling them!0 -
Hi,
We recently had to apply for my husband- we paid £950, went to the centre in Croydon and had the ILR granted within 2 hours. It was very straightforward, we took all our documents and the assessor just picked and chose what he needed, and that was it.
It is annoying to pay that amount of money for 2 hours of work, but in the end at least we had all the documents and passports returned in the same day.
We know people who have done the postal application and had their passports back within 4 weeks, and certain people have had to wait 6 long months - it's purely luck!
Hopefully you will get your wife's passport back in time.
Hi
I wondered if we could please pick your brains about ILR?
My wife and I have been happily married for almost 2 years now.
She is Japanese and Im a Brit. We have a son almost 2 years old.
We got the spouse vise thingy no probs, at the time I thought we had to wait another 2 years all the time building up 20 proofs of living together then apply for ILR.
Someone told me things have changed a bit now, you only need 6 proofs?
Anyway I have 20 bills, bank statements etc.
The problem is due to the global crisis I have lost my job, my company got rid of 30 staff. Its harder than ever to find something else, I will take anything.
The good thing is we have savings and dont need any public funds.
But will our application be accepted if we are both out of work? (wife still fulltime mum).
Also do you recomend doing it in 1 day?0 -
Visas are a nightmare... i paid around £ 700 last year for my residence visa... i have to say that they were very very fast with me ( argentinian nationality) i had my husband's passport back within 1 week and my passport back with the visa granted in 2 weeks.. i could not believe it;at that time my husband was getting tax credits but this not affected our claim as i was not claiming it. i have to say too that we were both self employed, and again this was not important to them somehow.
I am now ready to apply for citizenship this coming week, i can not believe that the papers that they actually need for this big step are almost none ! just marriage certificate, passport, tax proof and that's all. i had to say aswell that last year i passed my "life in the Uk test " so i do't need to do it in this ocassion.
It cost £720 but there are plans to make it much harder so i will be paying this with my credit card right now so i am free of all this visas and inmigrations staff.i think it well worth it if you can afford it right now, after April next year everything will change again and it will be very hard to get it, not to say much more expensive.Mejor morir de pie que vivir toda una vida de rodillas.0 -

Bruno, I'd advise you to contact your local MP and ask to speak with their caseworker. There's a special hotline number at IND in Croydon only available to MP's offices (I know this as I worked for an MP years ago) and they might be able to help with problematic applications, especially as you have flights booked.0

I know exactly what your going through Bruno, we applied for my hubby's ILR in june and got a letter this morning saying they want additional documentation, we're supposed to be going away in November and were hoping to get his passport back by then if not were snookered :-) hope all works out for you.0

OH got her ILR last year at Croydon PEO. Well worth the extra GBP200 it cost for peace of mind and getting your passport back immediately.
The key to obtaining such visa/permanent residence/citizenship is being prepared. We checked the requirements for obtaining ILR when we arrived back in the UK. We then retained every official letter we received as supporting evidence for the ILR application. The other important thing is demonstrating your ability to financially support yourselves with payments slips and bank statements. At the end of the day, the onus is on the applicant to substantiate their application.
I would strongly recommend that if any needs informal advice about ILR, then the should post over on UK resident forum. In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0
