Car finance while on benefits

My main issue when it comes to the car is the safety. I will have 3 car seats in the back and the only cars that seem suitable are the one with the 3 separated seats at the back. That way there is no middle seat with a lump, which you cannot really put a car seat on. That is why we have gone for the newer more expensive option.

I have yet to find an older car that really caters for what we need. Unless anyone else knows of one.
I used to suffer from lack of motivation.... now I just can't be arsed.

To be absolutly blunt, I think that you are deluding yourself that you can really afford to spend this amount of money in your situation.

There are plenty of cars around for less money that will do the job.

Not what you want to hear I know, but that is my take on the situation.;)

    There's plenty.

But if money is an issue you'd be better off with a smaller car. Nearly all cars have 5 seats, 2 in the front, 3 at the back.

How very cheeky! I don't think elaina's circumstances is yours or anyone else's business.

Thank you for your comment. I was expecting the benefit bashers to have a go though, so don't worry.

I didn't come here to have to explain my circumstances or justify myself. As for the previous comments, I do have the extra money to pay for the finance and I certainly don't spend money that I don't have.
I live well within my means. As for my husbands disability, that doesn't have anything to do with it and as for having lots of kids, I would hardly count 3 as lots. I'm blessed to have my children and the one that I am carrying, having lost 6 others over the years.
As for anyone else wanting to have a go just because I'm happen to be on benefits, I'm not ashamed as I am looking after my family and will continue to live of beneifts as long as I need to.

All I want to know is who would be the best people to go with when it comes to getting finance.
I used to suffer from lack of motivation.... now I just can't be arsed.

There are options that avoid finance altogether though ;) Chances are anywhere that will accept you will charge yonks of interest, which will keep you snowed under with repayments for ages.

You could try the DSS crisis loans if they still do them, but I doubt they'd give £5000 and I doubt they'd consider a car purchase a crisis.

Remember you still have to be ready to fork out for any unexpected and potentially expensive repairs if needed on top of the monthly repayments, and you'll also have insurance and road tax coming up within 12 months, and if you want to keep the car in good condition the cost of servicing. Plus petrol isn't getting any cheaper either. Monthly repayments on car finance (which is completely unnecessary when you can buy a car for £500) and added to that all those other costs - while on benefits doesn't sound easy.

Swallow your pride and get a banger

Sorry, reading your profile, I assumed that you didn't have any spare money and that you do in fact spend money that you don't have.

Well how about buying an older car that maybe isn't as convenient as it could be, and saving the loan payments for a year or so. Then you won't need to borrow as much.

I don't know the rules on children and car seats but if one of your children is able to sit in the front seat, your husband could sit in the back and you will all fit in.

So basically she could work if she wanted. she just prefers spending ours and corporation's money for her luxuries.

You clearly have no concept of caring for someone with bipolar disorder. It is a serious mental health problem and I have to be with him all the time. Trust me it's not nice to have to drag your loved one away from a river when he his threatening to jump in, or watch him cry histerically due to the thoughts he has in his head.

I hope you never have to cope with any kind of disability except your own ignorance.

As for the situation we had with log book loans, they did reposess our old car but they ended up stopping any action regarding the rest of the payments once CAB threatened them with court action for issuing a contract with us that was practically illegal. I was working at the time when we took out this loan as well and could afford the repayments but took action against them due to their practices.

I have calculated the costs of running the car as well as the tax and all the other expenses so I have an idea how much it will cost and have included that within my budget.

I am not going to go into this blind and have told hubby that as well. I'm very strict when it comes to our finances. I am hoping that we will be in the situation soon where hubby can think about getting a part time job and get back on his feet as he really hates being ill, and wants to get his life back on track.

I live well within my means.

If you need finance to buy a car you're living beyond your means. Buy one of the afore-mentioned vehicles for a grand, they'll do the same job and will cost much less in the long run.
