I agree and disagree with you notlass, the conditions you mention above are actual conditions that without treatment would probably kill or severely shorten life and debilitate. However physically, not getting IVF would not do any harm. Although personally I have been lucky and managed to get pregnant easily I have seem friends go through the heartache of not been able to conceive, and have every sympathy for anyone who is facing such heartache.
However the HS trusts funds are not limitless and with new drugs becoming ever more expensive they have to find cost cutting measures somewhere.
Perhaps the fairest scheme would be to introduce a scheme where you had to pay for IV, but with some means testing, so that you paid only what you could afford.
Perhaps there should be a similar scheme for people that choose to "enjoy" certain lifestyles, therefore exposing themselves to the risk of preventable conditions - after all if they can afford to smoke, drink and eat too much of the wrong food, they can afford to pay for the treatment of resulting illness !!!!0 -

I agree with you, though smokers already pay a fair amount in tax for the pleasure of smelling bad and killing themselves. I would support an increase on duty on alcohol . Food is a difficult one as there is such variation, taxing say high fat foods would mean taxing cheese and butter and stuff. Whatever way you could do it would mean that a few foods which are not really 'junk' would fall into the tax category and everyone would get there knickers in a twist over it.0 -
I wonder if all the people who disagree with IVF are the ones sitting at home with their 2.5 children.
I have a gorgeous dd born through IVF paid for by our NHS. We would never have afforded treatment otherwise.
They need to end the postcode lottery and make it fair to all.
Lets ban liver transplants to alcholics, treatment to idiots who drive their cars like rally drivers and crash and for smokers who pollute their lungs and mineTRYING hard to be a good money saver :rolleyes:0 -

It's the same in Berkshire - they have a 35yo age limit they will give IVF.
I know because I live in Oxon and a friend lives in Berks.
Despite that I won;t get involved with this because I think there are better things to spend money on than helping someone have a baby - I'm afriad having a child isn;t a right and I'd rather the money was spent on helping ill people. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

You hit the nail on the head!
Raising family is a basic human right that is set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Article 16... These PCTs are denying people their rights. This is not acceptable.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE Forum Team0 -
I have a child, also due to nhs incompetence, i am also left unable to carry any more children, i am grateful for the one i do have..
No one has mentioned the children given up at birth (for what ever reason) who need new mummies and daddies... whats wrong with these, they not good enough because you didn't make them?
This world is overpopulated as it is, show some charity and consider adoption / fosteringLife is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -

will it change your bitter tone if you know that I lost my first baby?
I still don't believe we have a right to have a child. I'm sorry you weren;t able to have one naturally, same as I really feel for my friend who miscarried three times and will probably never have a baby, but I still don;t think we have a right to have children.
Paparika - there aren;t many babies for adoption; it is usually older children. And it can be hard to adopt - my friend isn;t allowed because she has MS. :j

Its not a competition to see who needs a child the most.
