Damaged floor

Possibly, although it is not something I'd get into. The flooring is a few years old, so assuming we get the same laminate to replace the scratched areas, I'm not so sure how it would look with the current laminate which definitely would have aged in the last few years. If they insist on getting a quote for repair only, I'd do that but use the money to replace the flooring (adding my money of course)LinasPilibaitisisbatman wrote: »How will you need to replace it irrespective? it could be repaired possibly.
That's a good idea, perhaps I'll look some specialist flooring experts to come by and give me some quotes.LinasPilibaitisisbatman wrote: »You need to get a flooring expert to confirm that and get a quote from them. If you go straight in for a replacement without getting any proper advice they will rightly tell you where to go.
As I mentioned earlier, I haven't taken any formal quote yet. I just got an estimate. I will of course get formal quotes and it is upto the delivery company to accept it or let me know whom they find reliable.LinasPilibaitisisbatman wrote: »Also I would suggest you need it from independent sources and not workmen who stand to benefit from blaming it on someone else
Not possible, since the two delivery blokes pushed the dishwasher into the dining area and I was behind them. The workmen were already in the dining area. So very less likely they're the cause of it, unless they went later and scratched the laminate flooring just for funLinasPilibaitisisbatman wrote: »for all you know those workmen did it.

Well it is unlikely but all the same feasible. Given their presence as witnesses avoid them for quotes to avoid delays due to accusations of impropietry.
Ultimately you probably will get your floor replaced, just try to look like thats not your sole gain otherwise they might drag their feet thinking you are trying to scam them into replacing your floor for you free of charge.0 -
Never said I fancy a new floor, I would never have considered doing ANYTHING to the floor if this hadn't happened. The point I'm trying to make is that I want it to look normal, if it can be repaired and it looks exactly the same as before I'd prefer that since it is lesser pain for us as well (I mean pulling out the entire floor is a nightmare for us as well). However, I'm sceptical about repair work and if it doesn't turn out as I expected I'd have to shell out for the entire new flooring since I can't obviously go back to the delivery company again and say that the repair work hasn't turned out as I expected so now I need more moneyLinasPilibaitisisbatman wrote: »Do you genuinely think that he shouldnt have to even ask about repair simply because he fancies a new floor.
As I said in my previous post, if they do give me money based on a repair, I'd probably put that against the cost of a new floor, but bear in mind this is something I never fancied, it is a royal pain in the backside :rolleyes:0 -
Good point, perhaps I'll just 2 quotes each for repair and relacement and they can be the judge as to how they want to settle it. Probably a good idea not to use the existing company. Will get two independent quotes, thanks for thatLinasPilibaitisisbatman wrote: »Well it is unlikely but all the same feasible. That does look promising. I hope you manage to get it sorted soon without too much bother.0 -
Well some update on this, I got 2 quotes from specialist flooring companies and both of them said it is not recommended to repair since it was stuck on and also it is difficult to match the laminate. So they gave quotes for replacement of the flooring. We sent this off with photographs of the damaged areas.
A few days back I got a call from the insurance company saying a surveryor would come by to have a look. He came on Saturday and was extremely aggressive. Some sort of bullying tactics I guess, the same question he kept asking me is 'Why would two delivery men push the dishwasher along the hallway, they should be carrying it' as if it was my fault. And I kept reiterating the same point again, saying that since they were two of them I let them do their job and it was not in my place to tell them how to do it. After he asked me this question a few more times, I told him this is something he should be asking the delivery men not me. Another point he was trying to make is why would they get the dishwasher on a pallet?
*duh* I did not pack the dishwasher so what is the point of asking me these questions?
Seemed like what the previous few posters said that they feel I'm trying to get them to replace my flooring  and from his aggressive questioning it seemed like he implied we had scratched the floor on purpose  Or perhaps getting us to withdraw the complaint saying that the delivery men would get a good kicking to which I answered that they would probably deserve it since they were being lazy doing their job.
He said that he would now submit his report to the insurance company and they would contact me. Any idea what I should do if the report comes back negative?
This is the first time I'm in this situation, I mean I've had tons of stuff over the years delivered to my house from a massive american style fridge-freezer to big sofas and have never faced this issue

Presently it sounds like its going okay, the fact that the delivery company have been sufficiently interested to contact you and send out a surveyor. The nightmare scenario would be both the retailer and delivery company telling you to prove that the damage was caused by the delivery - okay you have builders prepared to chip in but it is essentially your word against their's.
Hang on in0 -
They are just testing your resolve which is part of their job. Don't read too much into it. It sounds like you handled it well and stood your ground.
Keep it up!0 -
Should be thankful they listened in the first instance and are taking it seriously and have sent someone out. Seen other similar situations on here where they dont bother.0

Do you know the name of the Insurance Company that sent the Loss Adjuster / Surveyor out?
If the claim being handled by the company who you bought the machine off or the delivery companies Insurers?0
