i think i would know if i spent the money and and wouldnt be wasting everyones time by asking

I'd suggest it was multiple charges, like a 25 bounce charge followed by a couple of letters about the unauth o/d and it'd easily be at 100 already..... :j

AFAIK, we don't charge a fee if a cheque paid into your account is bounced (you're liable for any overdraft that might result, however.)

I would urge you to call telephone banking on 08457 404404 or drop into a branch to discuss this.

So there are no charges for a bounced cheque? So whats happened is the OP has seen the £100 in the account, spent the money, then the cheque has been withdrawn?

I maybe ignorant, but I am correct.

    never-in-doubt - apology accepted ;)

It's no big deal, maybe they just forgot but I still think something isn't fight cos the OP clearly stated that they never spent it.

HSBC will know the answers, lets wait and see eh?

Yes I know what you say, but the OP obviously hasn't got internet banking (or would see the charges online) so has just gone and spent the money. This could happen to any person.

Although I would agree with you but from the fact that the OP said they had a bounced cheque for £100 and they are overdrawn for £100, it just makes sense doesn't it?

    rofl at the other reply.

i looked onto this and the debt comes from when i paid a £100 cheque into my account from a friend then she cancelled it, so why would i be overdrawn i never had or spent the money??
Because you withdrew the money before the cheque was returned unpaid. You would have been able to do this after 3 working days. Before the 2-4-6 arrangement came into place Nov 97, it could take up to 8 working days for the other bank to return the cheque unpaid.

HSBC charged bounced cheque fees when I worked for them. There was a flat fee per cheque subject to an overall maximum per month. I'll be jiggered if I can remember the amounts though.

I don't know how recently that changed, but AFAIK if a cheque you've paid in bounces then you won't get charged. No mention of such a fee is present in HSBC's terms and conditions, at any rate.

ahh, see where you're coming from.... genuinely apologise now cos the words were 'bounced a £100 cheque' which the words in themselves suggest that a cheque for £100 has been presented (bounced after spent) and linking with SS comments regards to no charge - it maybe is the case after all...... ;)
