HSBC Overdrawn?

hello

im looking for some advice....

i have a basic hsbc account that i havent used in years the other day i had a letter in the post saying i am over drawn and it has been passed to an agency and if i dont pay the £100 that i am overdrawn by it will go to court and i'll have to pay £750

however...i looked onto this and the debt comes from when i paid a £100 cheque into my account from a friend then she cancelled it, so why would i be overdrawn i never had or spent the money??

Because you cashed the cheque. Your money goes up by £100. You spend the money. 5 days later the cheque bounces and £100 is taken away from your account. You are £100 overdrawn.

You say you didn't spend it but theres no otherway you are £100 overdrawn.

Yes but what people say and what people do are usually completely different things.

You do not get charged £100 for a bounced cheque, do you?

HSBC overdraft charge is £25 so can't be that either.

    £100 means you've spent it.

A statement will show if the money was withdrawn or a card was used to purchase things. If you can get hold of a statement, have a look at it and the activity on your account.

Otherwise, just go and speak to someone at HSBC and get them to investigate. It sounds like the £100 cheque is involved somehow... could it be a charge (bounced cheque/OD charge) that's been gaining interest for a while?

They don't charge £100 for a bounced cheque. Wow people are so ignorant nowadays.

It wasnt a bounced cheque charge but may be multiple charges.

Otherwise you have spent it as already suggested. If this is not the case have you considered asking HSBC for a statement to show what did actually happen?

If having the ability to think outside the box makes me "Ignorant" then so be it:rolleyes:

Ah yes, but the simplest answer is most probably the right ;)
