Advice Pc World

I would value advice regarding a laptop i bought in October and which i have hardly used because of the situation. I bought it from PC world as a extra computer for in the house so we dont fight and because i wanted broadband. i also bought it so that i could upload photos on it when we are away in our touring caravan. This was the deciding factor as it had a sticker on saying 5 in 1 media reader. however, when the guy came to install broadband for us he said it did not have this. the shop floor model had this sticker on and also the new one we got out of the box had this sticker on. i was furious. two letters to customer services at this branch were ignored. finally i got a response - £20 voucher. i was livid as to get the model on this would have cost an extra £150. i contacted Trading standards who have took statements etc, copies of letters, they can prosecute the store as the store should have checked the product was correct but they cant help get my money back or the computer replaced for what was advertised. i have little interest in using this computer as i am sick of PC world and want a refund or free replacement of a computer with the 5 in 1 media reader on. Further letters to the store have been ignored and a letter to a named person on the pc world website said cs at ? sheffield was dealing with this, and i have heard nothing else. i have contacted my local newspaper about this for some bad publicity but whether they write anything remains to be seen.
Any advice. Should i take to small claims court???

Have you spoken to anyone at the store? Been into the store? I would be really getting more wound up than it sounds like you are to be honest - £20 is just not good enough for what has happened by the sounds of it!Weight Loss - 102lb0

i have not been in the store as i hate face to face confrontation. i would rather do it by letter then everything is documented.Just about to give up!0

Well surely if you bought it in the store it may be worth your while going back into the store as if this has happened more than just you may have been affected at the same store and they may have a plan in place to rectify it? Have you rung the store or written to the store?Weight Loss - 102lb0

Totally agree, would get a second opinion from the shop that sold the system rather than totally ignore them!!!Weight Loss - 102lb0 -
External card readers can be picked up from about £5 upwards or you can get a PCMCIA adaptor that reads 4-5 devices for about £10-15. They have offered you £20 (that should cover the cost) ... if you want to persue this then under no circumstances should you use the voucher (that could be interpreted as accepting their offer .. you should return it with a letter stating that you find their offer unacceptable). Is it your computer that has the sticker on it? If so then one would expect that there was one somewhere, if not then do you have a copy of the advert that proves they were offering it with a card reader? What is the make & model on your invoice and of the actual product you received?
This is a good example as to why you should always check that what you have bought is as described at the earliest opportunity.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
i wrote back and said i was appauled at the offer of £20 refund. i wanted a built in 5 in 1 card reader not an external one. i wrote that in december and have had heard nothing since. the advert advertising the 5 in 1 media sticker on the actual computer in the store, but it was also on the sealed boxed one i took away from the store, which makes it seems to be Compaq's fault, but Trading Standards said PC World should have checked all the information out.Just about to give up!0

If you actually purchased the laptop with the card reader surly you are entitiled it - take it back to the shop and demand it!0

Have you tried contacting Compaq directly - they are much more helpful than PC World. They may even give you an authorised returns number which will enable you to get a refund from PC World. Although get Compaq to contact PC World to confirm this first.Treat others as you would like to be treated :A0
