Got this company as one of my best quotes and after finding this thread I am happy I didn't even consider them until I did research.
All I can say is I feel sorry for anyone who maybe isn't internet savvy enough to go review hunting before snapping up what appears to be a bargain.
Thanks original poster and folks who commented, without you companies like this would no doubt run riot.0 -

Ok. here goes
I bought a new car and picking it up tomorrow. I phoned 1st Central to get my policy moved to my new car as it was due to end in September and didnt want to lose my no claims. I gave the guy on the phone my policy number and he couldnt find any record, so i gave him my address details, again couldnt find any record. He took my car reg number. then put me on hold. came back 5 min later and told me that they changed computer systems in March and it deleted a lot of customers details/policies, me being one of them. He told me they sent a letter to me which he seen on the system, to say the policy had been cancelled. I can guarentee i never received it as i would have been on the phone straight away. Ends up ive had no insurance since MARCH. (Which i was oblivious too) No letter, No email and No phone call from them. I use my car every day and obviusly dont drive without insurance due to the fine/points you get wihtout it. Luckly ive never been pulled over by police.
I came home from work and phoned them again. This time i got 2 different stories.
I was told that i hadnt been paying the monnthly payments and that was the reason it was cancelled in DECEMBER. they told me i hadnt set up a Direct Debit. Total LIE as the company set a DD up not the customer. i was then put on hold for 5 min again.
agent came back but this time i could hear someone telling her what to say. I was told this time that i was only covered in October 2010 as i had only paid the deposit and nothing else.
Turns out that i hadnt paid monthly installments (after checking my bank statements) but not my fault as the company set up the DD and not the customer.I supplied them the correct details when i set the account up as i recieved a DD guarentee. I could not believe what i was being told.
3 different stories in one day. Really angry and would never recommend this company. not even to my worst enemy.
Im taking this to the ombusman first thing tomorrow morning.
Similar thing happened to me a year or two ago.
I was happily insured with them for a few months and noticed direct debits being taken on a monthly basis. One month i noticed this hadnt come out a week after it usually did. I received no letter phone call or email. I called them to check everything was ok and why it hadnt been taken and they said my policy had been cancelled due to non payment and not setting up direct debit. To which i replied it came out successfully for the past 3 months.
As it turned out i had been driving around uninsured for a week.
They said i could reinstate it but obviously went elsewhere.0 -
1st central are [text removed by MSE Forum Team], report them and get all your money back!
its my 2nd year with them,
1. they sent me a renewal, but i decided to join as a new customer (again) on their website, i filled up all my upto date details, because it was £25 cheaper,
2. [text removed by MSE Forum Team] sent me new schedule with my old details from previous year,
3. (in my 2nd year with 1st central, and its my 2nd claim in 20years, not my fault) i had road traffic incident (not my fault), i informed them same day, they call me back after 3 days,
4. they keep repeating dvla check on me, with conference call with dvla, their escuse is someone else did the check before and it was not them, or the last check was not recorded on their computer,
5. their assessor (kinderton, another [text removed by MSE Forum Team]), keeps taking my email address and never sends any forms,
6. (kinderton) wasting time with offers of replacement car (if and when mine goes for repairs), asking for excess of £300 on replacement car, whereas my policy has excess of £150, i declined to take replacement car, (i have suspicion if i accept their car they will unfairly haunt me for something),
7. after 10 days of incident, they still play unfair games with me, doing more dvla check, and kinderton updating me with nonsence that they are still looking into my case,
8. infortunately i avoided ensleigh and more than to opt for 1st central, i should avoid all 3 of them, they are the new [text removed by MSE Forum Team] in the insurance industry,
9. you must report them (to every watchdog, and every online forum) and (dont stop until you) get all your money back from these absolutely [text removed by MSE Forum Team]!0 -

Not sure what to make of all this tbh. anyway............
I have been smacked by a taxi on the way home this evening stationary at a red light,he hit me so hard he shunted me in to the car in front.I immediately dialed 999 so we dont have a different version of events coming from the guilty party later on,you know the script they admit liabillity then go home reinvent the accident and then blame you then you have a legal battle for the next year as happened to me last time , i took photographs etc the police attended, he has knocked the rear of my Honda Accord in at least a quater of an inch,my boot wont shut and bumper is buckled.
Anyway the taxi driver he has offered to pay for any repairs to my car, even buy it if it is an economical right off,he actualy started crying,so i have pondered the thought of letting this bloke do just that( a bit soft me).Anyway friend and family have all warned me against this,on account of the unimjured and undamaged car i hit might later make a claim leaving me vulnerable to being sued.
You guessed it i am insured with 1st Central,i cant even find my fully Comp insurance certificate, i dont even think i was sent one because it is not in my box with the last 10 years that i keep,i cant even access my policy on their website using the password they sent me and email address,i dont even know what my excess is right now.So i entered 1st Central to search for a policy PDF and ended up hear.
Maybe i should just take the taxi driver up on his offer right now and take my chances ?
Seriously worried at this moment in time.
Will keep you all updated, will be on the phone at 8 am,i hope a lot of these negative reviews are nothing more than rival firms slurring a competitor,am going to find out...............0 -

I phone 1st Central this morning using the Claims number and reported my accident to a helpful chap called Amir who logged all the details of my accident and gave me some beware advice of dealing with the 3rd party before giving me a claims number,.The call was answered al most immediatelty ,very quickly in my opinion.
I phoned again this afternoon using the same claims number, again call answered almost immeiately by a chap called Carl,he took my claims number and started the ball rolling as regards my claim against the Taxi driver, has put me on to a reapair centre and solicitor.,he was very helpful and reassuring.I will be contacted in the next 24 hours by a repair centre.
So there you go,all in a very positive experience for me,calls answwered quickly and staff coherent and very helpful.0
