  • Hi folks, please can someone help me.

On 24 June 2003 I took out the Axa Bonus Cashbuilder Plus, sucked in by the ads in the paper. I've recently realised this was not a good decision. Today i have telephoned them, and they have told me the cash in value is £3784.45 ( total invested £3800 ) I'm a bit releived that I haven't lost most of the amount invested.

Should I accept this? To make matters worse my better half also took one out at the same time ( on my advice tut tut), she has been offered a similar amount.

To make matters even worse I took another one out in 2009
cash in value £932.82, total invested £952.00.

Based on the fact that we took out the first 2 policies on 24 June 2003, can i issue a complaint, and hopefuly get more than the cash in value, or does the fact that it was issued on this date affect any complaint.
  • Hi, I hope this is the best place to post for a reply from someone who knows their stuff...
Basically I took out a policy 27/9/01 (so unfortunately not eligible to get premiums back plus interest). I started by paying £10 a month, increasing by £2 a month up to £20, which I have now been paying for quite some time. I never looked into cashing in early, as I stupidly assumed there would be massive penalties, and surely it would be worth carrying on paying til the end... I have now done a bit of reading on here though, and these are my findings:
So far I've paid in £2340. If I surrender the policy today I would get £2471.94, including a £348 not guaranteed bonus. Not quite sure what the not guaranteed bit means, but assuming I get roughly £2470 and pay it into a Santander 2 year fixed ISA, paying 3.3% interest, (or is there a better option?) I should have £2620 in there in 2 years time, and hopefully something similar would then be available to stick it in for another 2 years, in which case I would be looking at £2780 at the end of that time.
My other option would be to carry on paying in another £900 until maturity, making the total paid in £3240, with a predicted payout in 4 years of £2714 plus estimated bonuses of £1026 = £3740.
I'm not sure exactly how much extra interest I would get if I instead added the £20 a month to the ISA, but surely it should make up the 60 quid difference, especially as the figures are based on their predictions, plus it will give me added flexibility of how I use the money?
I just wanted to ask the question before I do something I can't go back on, in case there's something I haven't thought about, or if there's another option I haven't thought of?
Sorry about the long post, but hope someone will take the time to read... Thanks in advance!
I don't think I can hang on til Friday...
  • Just a quick update, I wrote to complain after being offered £3784.45 and they have agreed to cancel the policy and will pay me £4185.59.My better half also got the same amount. Very pleased and relieved. no luck with the 2009 policy though. Thanks to Jonathanen for the template letter

Hey Linton! My web site - http://www.jonathanen.com/pages/AXA/AXA.htm is back on!!

As for paying bills, I'm the best when it comes to paying bills. I always paying all the bills immediately as soon it comes through my letter box!!

It's my friend who is the web designer and he has designed my whole web site except my AXA Sun Life True Story web page which I've designed it myself! He has forgotten to 'renew' my domain name for my web site!!

Unfortunately, he has renewed it for only 1 year when I wanted him to renew it for 3 years!!
