Id say so yes (Although im still unsure what the 'black level settings' does exactly so its not gospel)

for me when it is set at low the picture looks crisper and the blacks look richer. it does make it look slightly darker but i find the previously mentioned qualities it gives make up for that.

Just checked out your tv. It DOES have deep colour (FULL RGB capabilities)
So it looks like its upto you how you wish to proceed but for gaming then you want FULL RGB and SUPERWHITE ON and the black level set whatever its supposed to be for FULL RGB to work

Watching blurays and dvds is a different kettle of fish. Either switch the black level back to normal mode (Which is what id suggest)
Or set the PS3 to FORCE to display RGB when playing discs (At the expense of detail)

ie ~ LOW setting is for FULL RGB
NORMAL setting is for LIMITED rgb and NORMAL viewing

yes i set everything as advised and it was far too dark.
we do have thx on star wars dvds. i never really got any joy with them. anyway a thx disc shouldnt be necessary as i was given all the settings i needed in those calibration settings and as i said it looked far too dark afterwards.

Not all tvs are made exactly the same and depending on what your mains supply is like and what cables you use etc the settings could vary quite a bit

As ive just found out the weird way your tv works (At least as I understand it)

You SHOULD use the THX disc to set contrast and brightness using a normal dvd player and the hdmi level set to NORMAL

Using the PS3 is going to be a nightmare as it looks like if you wish to view it as it should be seen (YCBCR ~ NOT rgb), then youd need to have 2 settings ready to flick between. One for FULL rgb for gaming etc and one for normal when viewing blurays and dvds

Forgot to add. To be able to calibrate to FULL RGB you need a proper setup disc (The thx one etc just wont do)

If the screen goes blank that points to your tv not being able to accept a true 1080p signal (Youve not switched on FULL rgb have you? It should be 'limited')

i had the same thing on my LG
in the end it was the HDMI cable causeing the problems
booght a 1.3b certified cable from an amazon seller(under a tenner) and all good
