retracting Paypal funds?

Hi,

Can anyone please help me ?

I bought a Book off Ebay and paid by Paypal 6 hours later. I won the book for 1p, basically its the sellers first listing and she had spelt the authors name wrong, i did a search and found it. The books normally go for about £3 or so on there.

Anyway i paid and a day later she wrote me a mail asking if i can i retract the payment as although she received the mail saying ive paid ,she cant get into the paypal site to claim the money.(!?) Ive looked and i cant find a way to retract the funds, the book was a penny with £4.00 for postage with recorded delivery. Do you think she doesnt want to pay the fees on such a small priced item or is she just trying to wiggle out of it?

How do i retract the payment and will it cost me anything? She hasnt claimed the money yet

AFAIK, there is no way for you to retract the money - otherwise, buyers would be doing it all the time!

She admits that knows you've paid, so she should send you the book. Mail her and explain this to her, nicely, but at the end say that if she doesn't send it, you'll have to file against her.

Has she still got any other items for sale? If so, and she is showing Paypal as a payment method, it could indicate that she doesn't want to let it go so cheaply. But, basically, she has no choice, you bought it fair and square! :D

  • Thanks for the reply.
Yes she has got other items for sale, with bids on ,so if she wanted to edit to say "no paypal" then she couldnt anyway.

Ive mailed her to say that i dont know how to retract the payment , so i will see what answer she comes up with next. I'll keep you posted !

  • Shes seriously annoying me now , saying i can retract it, she asked if it was pending on the ebay item page and it is.I know she hasnt claimed it yet , she says if i cancel it then post the payment then she will send it out to me. All this is by email so its slow communication.

The thing thats getting to me is that ive looked on her feedback today and shes just bought a "buy it now" item and paid immediately. I presume that must be with paypal too !

Tell her that you won the auction and have a contract with her, which she is bound to honour. Have you told her that you'll raise a complaint with ebay if she doesn't come through with the item? You paid as per her instructions at the time of sale - she can't move the goalposts now. Who does she think she is, Arsene Wenger? :rotfl:

  • Now ive just got a mail from her

Her : well it says pending on mine. i will have to check the bank on monday and see if it has gone in, but i dont see how if no one elses are working. it is a problem with my paypal and i have notified paypal and asked them to sort it out. i will have to let you know on monday. sorry *****

    I sent :

Thanks for the Email. It says pending on the ebay listing but not when i go into paypal. There isnt a way to retrieve the money, if there was everyone would do it. Ive asked other people about it and no one else is having a problem with there paypal, either as a seller or a buyer. Obviously you need it sorting out as you have other auction listings on Ebay with Paypal on the contract.

    Hope you sort it soon
    Regards

I'll leave it on Monday then its time to get tough! lol

Before you go all guns blazing. The payment as you have said is still pending, this means it hasnt reached her account and been paid in yet, so it sound like she hasnt had the money yet. If it says paid on the ebay page then you can be sure it has gone into her account.
How did you pay?? ie was it via credit card (paypal) debit card (paypal) or balance transfer (paypal).
It may be that paypal havent been able to get funds from your card or account yet!!! which would explain why it was still pending, or if you have sent an echeque then that will pend for 10 days.

Becareful about giving complete blame to the seller yet as from how i read this is your payment hasnt cleared to her account yet!!!

  • Im not giving blame i was asking how to retract the funds! Yes i am getting annoyed but thats with the slow emails conversation which are pestering me to retract the money, i dont know how to or even if i can.

No she hasnt collected the funds yet as it is pending ,she says she has a problem with her paypal ...but shes just paid for a buy it now with paypal! Its only pending because she hasnt collected it yet.

I paid for it straightaway by my current account (like switch). Its like an instant payment. She said she knows that ive paid as shes had a mail about it but wont send me the books she wants me to retract the payment and send by cheque. This is fine by me , but in the meantime she has my money in her account (uncollected) , how can i get it back ?

Shes added new listings today with paypal on them, so you can understand that i think shes pulling a fast one on me

If it's pending are you absolutely sure it hasn't gone as an echeque? If that is the case it will show that you've paid, but her account will only show the payment, but won't add the balance to her existing balance until it clears, it will just be pending till then. You won't know you've sent an echeque, but it is very likely if you are using a bank transfer to fund it.

For straightforward payments the seller never has to accept the payment, it goes straight to paid, it never goes through a pending stage.

That would also account for why she can still use her paypal account without problem, it is only your payment that is a problem, not the paypal account.

Ask her to look at the paypal note she got when you sent your payment, if it is an echeque it will say on that notice that the funds are uncleared and she must not send the items until reciept of cleared funds. She will have been given a suggested time frame of approx 4 working days, but in reality it can take up to 10 working days to clear.
