I went in to the council at 9am, bright and early, wanted to get a good start to the day.
Then they dropped the bombshell that not only do I owe them over £400 for a supposed council tax ben over payment, but I also owe them £1500 for a supposed housing benefit overpayment. Apparently it was far higher but they decided to be nice. This all because of apparent changes in my circumstances that I apparently havent told them about.....
They reckon its been worked out using my tax credit award notices, but they had about 10 changes on there, I only took in about 3 different award notices (for my review). Apparently I WAS entitled to have the HB and CTB but because they say I didnt tell them about changes, even if it was as little as 1p a week, they dont have to pay me anything, but they are being nice cos they can see that I would have been entitled.........
Anyhoo, apparently they are allowed to change it to ask for the money back, but they arent allowed to change it so that all the info is right and I get to keep the money that was correctly paid
Any ideas anyone? My OH said that rope and rafters isnt the answer, and neither is walking away and leaving everyone to it

Not sure but similar happened to me recently with ct ben and I got raked over the coals and given interview under caution so would be v happy they havent taken things further - not sure why they cant sort so the info is right though - seems bizarre!DFW 228 LONG H 68
DFD 2017 :eek:0 -
Its odd angelflower, like they said, I was entitled to it, but because there was a change in amount that came from wages and TC, even though it amounted to the same amount coming in, I didnt tell them the exacts, so they can ask for it back, even though I was entitled to it
Learnt my lesson! I shall be the bane of their lives now, cos mine are always changing by a couple of pence here and there, I said to OH I shall have to just book a weekly slot with them. Im allowed to ask for an appeal to check it again and then if I still dont agree I can appeal and it will go off to someone independant. You know this week has been my personal nightmare, hope thats my lot for 2009 :S 0 -
Hello everyone, I was a bad girl last night, I bought myself a pizza last night for my birthday.
Today is the last day of excess.
Today I won't be saving much money and the diet and exercise will be minimally good...
Today I have/will
- try to find a bargain outfit for my night out tonight
- try to persuade other people to buy me drinks! (hee hee)
Everything else will continue tomorrow.
Here's to the weekend, cheers everyone!

Happy birthday boopydoo
funny story mogchops, weve sometimes had cats come in our house, luckily they go out fairly quick.
Fay, have a nice trip down South for you!
Cleosmum, how annoying about the council tax fiasco, can't understand why they treat people that way.
Not very well today as have succumbed to the children's stomach bug. However have been to work and at least now i have two weeks off from my part time job. however there will still be second job, massage business and mystery shops all to fit in as well as the usual studying.
Not planning on an awful lot today:
-Went to work for my pennies
-Got a free easter egg
-Have put money in 101 pot
-Have emailed mystery shopping company to complain regarding a payment
-Have looked for mystery shops
-Have topped up massage oils
-First wash on 30
-I need to sort out letter to send to car insurance company
-will watch one of love film dvds which are currently free
-Have done some boring household jobs
-Will update spreadsheets
-Make tea from free food i got courteousy of mystery shops
-Will do daily scratch cards
-Read fave threads
-Sort out action plan for next week
-Review list of things to do
-Sort out client notes
-Update all client notes
-Read seven O.U pages
Not too much for today as not feeling well, plus the start of half term so will take today easy and let tomorrow be filled full of action. Will be rather lost without mse for the weekend! May not even get as much done as normal, now i have no one to share my lists with, may have to put it on my blog instead:rotfl::j Live on £4500, £2531/£4500:T 101 in 1001 (52/101):j:beer::j
