Have a need to moan!!!

As I posted in the Getting to know you thread I have cut back on my hours due to having major surgery last year (lung tumour - and no I have never smoked!). I have managed to re-adjust things in the budget to minimize the impact and things have been ok.

But now, after several years of low grade bullying at school we have no choice but to move our daughter out of there. Being in a really rural area the next school is exactly 9 miles away in another LEA. We have got her a place for May. This means et more cost in fuel as I will have to do 4 journeys a day, and because it's a really bad lane OH says I should have another (safer) vehicle which will mean a car loan. Arghhh! Am SO FED UP! when I don't see why it's my family that is penalised.

Sorry to moan but needed to off load, I can't talk to friends here because most of them are mums from the school and I can't trust myself not to say something I shouldn't if I start iykwim.

Thanks
Doddsy

I'm sorry to hear this; I was bullied at school and got nowhere trying to sort it out. Have you seen the school's bullying policy? Have you made a nuisance of yourself with the powers-that-be to try and get it sorted? If after all you've decided that the best option is to move your daughter, then I hope it all goes smoothly for you. It's a darn shame that you're the ones having to make the adjustment - if it were up to me I'd penalise the bullies instead.

Hope your recovery from the surgery's going well and that the budget works out.

    Hello Doddsy

From your post, I can't tell whether you mean

    (a) Your OH wants you to get another car in addition to the one you already have.

    (b) Your OH wants you get another car to replace the one you already have.

What model of car do you currently have? What model of car does your OH recommend you get, because he says it is safer? Do you know the NCAP safety rating of your current vehicle and the car your OH suggests?

Maybe we can suggest a safe but cheaper option for you.

Would it be worth contacting the new school and ask them if they know of any other children who are travelling by car to the school from your direction? It might be possible to share the costs with other mums.

Have a chat with your MacMillan nurse. They might be able to help you with a grant. My nurse is fab. MacMillan nurses don't just provide medical help. They have had a drive recently to bring awareness of the financial problems that a diagnosis of cancer brings. See this link http://www.macmillan.org.uk/abetterdeal/homepage.htm

    hi

my children are all ok at their school but i know someone who was told by the education department if you live over 3 miles from the school then they have to arrange transport taxi or pay for transport
    maybe you should make enquiries
there was also things like this on the news that a mum had to walk her child to/from school because she was just under the 3 miles but they fought and won so got transport
    its worth looking into

The Families Board might be able to help you out with this.

Sorry to hear of this and how awful for your DD....HUGS to your daughter.

Has the bullying been documented/noted with the school? If so, I would suggest asking your LEA for funding on transport to the new school on the grounds of bullying. I've heard that sometimes this can be counted as anti-social behaviour and you can ask for help on this basis. Might be worth a try. Your daughters education is priority here and would assume that your LEA could see that you are making this move for her benefit.

    Good Luck.

Doddsy is there no way you can get help with transportation costs?

I cannot get help because our LEA will only pay transport if I can prove that she is not getting an adequate service at her current school. They have said that if she went off ill for several weeks because of the bullying then we might have a case - but she will not do this as she sees it as giving in.

Ambergold - thanks for the hugs - much appreciated!

Loopylass - the school is 9 miles away but with another authority so there is no provision made. The (new) headmaster checked but the nearest pupil to us is 6 miles away anyway.

nile - OH wants me to replace the car I've got for work (Suzuki Swift) because it's a really bad road and he would prefer us in something sturdier and newer (ie with airbags). My current car is worth about £1000. We are thinking perhaps a Suzuki Jimny - 1300 and 4 x 4 (the road isn't gritted)

Squeaky - thanks - I will take a look - this is the only board I look at usually!

Pennypincher - I doubt that the school have categorized the incidents as bullying - she seems to have 'accidents', and now they are saying that she is the problem because she has no self confidence - well I wonder Why!!!!

Many thanks for the support guys

    regards

I'll now move this over to the families board to see if you get some more help there.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!
