Pick up only item - paypal or cash on collection?

I am selling a double bed on ebay and I was wondering whether I should request payment through paypal or say they can pay when they come to collect (if they are happy doing this)
Just wondered what others have done/would do in this situation?

Cash cash cash...if they pay by PP, they can then open a not recieved item dispute, you cannot prove delivery by a tracked mail system, they get their money back..you lose bed and money..simple.TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0

The downside of cash on collection is that it works in the reverse to what Possette described as a buyer - I wouldn't bid on something that was cash on collection, as I couldn't prove that I'd paid, so they could open an unpaid item dispute on me.0

Thanks to you both. I've offered both so we'll see what happens. I think either way one of us is open to lose out but hopefully i'll get a trustworthy buyer, if I get any buyer at all! :rotfl:

I really must do a cut and paste on this as this is something that gets asked over and over again and is actually a very tricky situation.
Ebay say that sellers cannot refuse paypal, they can't even say they 'prefer' cash on collection yet paypal say that it shouldn't be used for items that cannot be tracked online to the point of delivery.
many legitimate buyers have a real reason for wanting to pay by paypal, maybe they are funding a purchase on an interest free credit card for instance, however scammers want to do it too as they know they can collect the goods and then just chargeback their payment. In this situation there is nothing at all that seller can do.
It is also worth noting that this is a very common scam and alledgedly scammers will search out items that can be collected with paypal and target them regardless of whether or not they want the goods. They only have to get a few victims (sellers) every week to have a nic elittle earner going. Juts swap buying accounts, or hijack a new one when one gets too hot and bob's your uncle.
Personally I no longer sell large items on ebay that require collection, I only sell cheap things that I can take the loss on without it hurting too much.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. How about posting them the receipt by RM signed-for? Maybe that wouldn't do.0

Just as soolin should post a sticky, my standard response...
We sell a lot of collection items. We often accept paypal or cash on collection. We always ask that collectors inspect items here and sign for them as described.
We have never had a not received claim off a collection.0 -
so how would you get the item? The downside of cash on collection is that it works in the reverse to what Possette described as a buyer - I wouldn't bid on something that was cash on collection, as I couldn't prove that I'd paid, so they could open an unpaid item dispute on me.
how can the seller of a double bed, make a claim against the buyer for not paying...i think i would notice if someone walked through my house taking my bed with them.:D if no money changed hands seller would still have item.

I have just been scammed. I thought I was protected using Paypal. Payment was sent to Paypal and I met the guy half way to deliver the parcel. Payment has now been refused by Paypal. Is there absolutely nothing I can do to get my money back?????0 -

Nothing at all unless you can trace down a valid address for the 'buyer' and serve small claims papers on him.
Sorry to sound harsh, but what did you expect would happen in the event of a chargeback when paypal asked you to give the online tracking to prove delivery?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
