  • Hello everbody out there, have had a very stressfull wk.The factory i work in is laying off 19 people, there are 5 people out of 10 of us going in my dept so everyone is very anxious at the minute. They're changing are shifts from 12hr 2 8hr shifts. The bad news is that they're looking us 2 work 39hrs p/w instead of 36 and we'll be about £20-30 p/w worse off.I know it doesnt sound much but over a yr thats £1000 less than im getting at the minute,i think i have about a 70% chance of staying on.Ill know in about another months time or so.If i do stay on it means that i mightnt be able 2 pay off my debt as quickly as i thought.

Yikes, hope the job situation works out for you BATM.

The one thing about the 0% cards you need to bear in mind is that if you miss even one payment on this or the payment is late, you may lose the promotional rate. When setting up the card, agree to the minimum payment being an automated payment so all you need to worry about is that there is enough in the bank to cover this.

Would you get any redundancy money if you did need to leave?
Have you been looking for jobs elsewhere?

Also, don't use the 0% card to purchase anything - the time limits on the 0% are different and this is how many people get caught out.

  • Thanx for the advice George i would get about 1wk for every yr id been there.I'll be there 6yrs nxt mnth so id prob get around £1000-£1200.I might look around and see if theres anything else but theres not a lot of jobs about at the minute! My wifes job in B&Q had an o/t ban on there for a few wks but its been lifted. They were looking people 2 do o/t and instead of paying them money they were giving them days in leiu but an awful lot of ones said they werent doing o/t unless they were paid so they eventually lifted the ban!Thank goodness,it takes the pressure off me esp this time of yr when we're buying school uniforms and different things.
  • Hello everybody, paid £100 off my Ulster bank c/c bringing the debt on it down to £747.33 and have transferred £700 of that over 2 my new abbey/santander card.So ill pay the £47.33 +int on it next mnth which will pay the whole card off and ill have a bal of 721.00 2 pay off the santander card. Its 0% over 12 mnths.:D
  • Hello everybody, paid £210 off my ulsterbank card(wifes name)and my £40 off my Northern bank card,it now has a bal of less than £100.Was my wee girls birthday yesterday so we went 2 the seaside for the day.Its my wifes b'day 2morrow so were having a joint birthday party, ive ordered her a bouquet of flowers and we're going out for a meal 2morrow nt.Managed 2 get my debt under £3000 2day so that has really motivated me,no more news really on the job front, will maybe know more this wk.But am glad 2 get the debt under that amount,so happy days!:j
  • Had a birthday party for the child on Sat,everything went well, even the rain kept off,was my wifes birthday as well.In work i had 2 reapply for the job that im doing at the minute, there were other jobs on it in different depts but they were mostly n/shifts so wasnt that keen.think its pretty stupid as they know out of the 10 of us which 5 are going!Got another wee surprise when i came home from work and found my wife with a preg test and the wee blue pos line on it conf shes pregnant. She was very shocked as she didnt think shed get pregnant that quick due 2 her age.She was 37 on sat there! So will soon have 3 children 2 look after, her due dates 26th April nxt yr.
  • Just paid the remainder of my Ulster Bank card, they charged me £8.31 for the bal transfer alone so id £55.64 to pay.So thats 1 less c/c 2 worrry about.Transfered £700 of that bal over to Santander.I now owe less than £2800.Cant believe ive nearly paid £1000 off my total debt since i joined the website at the beginning of April. Thanks everybody for the cont support and the motivation u have given me!Aim 2 owe under £2500 by my 35th b'day which is on 9th October so thats my next challenge!
  • Forgot 2 mention yesterday,i got kept on in my job,im off for a wk and then i start on these 8 hr shifts Mon -Fri.I have worked out ill be about £20 worse off!:mad:When i get my 1st pay ill know more,im considering looking around for another job but ill stay in this job till i find 1.O.H is doing alright at the minute. She will be 6wks on Monday and everythings going well. The only big thing we need for the new baby is a pram, car seat and other accessories and it will be around £400 which we're going 2 buy after Christmas.

Well done on making that dent in the debt and good news that you still have a job.

Don't close the Ulster card just yet - after you receive a nil statement from them, you may be able to get a balance transfer offer on it and as an existing customer, this shouldn't require a credit check. Hopefully you'll be able to transfer some other high APR debt to a lower blance.
