Iphone help
Hoping somebody can clarify a few matters.
I am planning on buying an Iphone PAYG and putting in an O2 simplicity sim.
If I go to the Apple store and buy one (or order it online) - do I have to jailbreak or unlock the phone before I put the simplicity sim in or does it work ok without tampering with the phone?
Also the PAYG Iphone is currently £342.50 in the Apple Store - is it best to just bite the bullet and pay this or has anyone found any real bargains on places like ebay? I have been looking on ebay and some of the prices they are selling for is more than the price of a brand new one! is there a reason for this?

I cant help with the other questions you asked but £342.50 is for the 8gig iphone and maybe the ones on ebay are the 16gig ones and thats why they are going for more
(I haven't looked on ebay,this is just a guess);)0 -
Art - I'm thinking about doing a similar thing - and it does seem strange that people pay more for them on Ebay than they would have to with a brand new one from O2.
Just as a tip. If you buy a 12 month Simplicity contract from O2 via Quidco they are currently offering a £110 cashback. And you could get 4% cashback on the phone from Apple Store (might be able to get 5% with Carphonewarehouse but not 100% sure if this is on Iphones)
I know the next iphone is due in the summer but you don't know what the price is going to be, and if they are going to tie you down to a 2 year contract at £45 per month etc - this way you can see where the land lies in 12 months time!! Well that's my thoughts anyway!! (Plus I can claim money back through my tax as a business expense seeing as it will link to my computer with a remote desktop connection such as logmein)0 -
I've honestly seen some people advertising the 3g 8gb phone on ebay with a buy it now price which is more than what the apple shop are asking!0

I've done exactly what you're thinking of - I bought a pay as you go iPhone from o2 and use it with my simplicity sim card. Theres no need to unlock or jailbreak the phone - it works perfectly well with the sim card
A few things to note -
I had a fairly old sim card so it was only 2g - you need a 3g sim card to use 3g internet - but this is simple as you just contact o2 and they send you a new 3g sim card within a couple of days (if I remember correctly there was info about this sent with the phone).
I don't know whether you already have the unlimited web bolt on - but its definately a must in my opinion! I haven't bothered with the unlimited wifi bolt on as theres not that many wifi hotspots near me!
Can't think of anything else to note - but I didn't have any problems setting it up - good luck!0 -

Hi Claire87
This sounds like the best option I have seen. Because the 2 options, based on getting a 16mb iphone are:
Option A:
Sign up to a 12m simplicity contract £19.58 online 800 mins and 1600 texts and select the free Unlimited Web bolt on and if you use quidco you get £110 cashback. I have spoken to O2 customer services today and they said you can use simplicity with the iphone. But you cant use visual voice mail or call merging which allows you to have a 3way conversation. You still have to but the iphone at £391.27.
Option B:
Sign up to a 24m iphone contract £34.26 600 mins and 500 texts and buy the iphone at £57.74
If you disregard the mins and texts. With option A the iphone costs (£391.27-£110)=£281.27
Option B. £34.26-£19.58= an extra £14.68 x 24months = £352.32+£57.74=£410.06!!! A difference of £128.79 and you only tied to a 12 month contract.
Do all workings stand up? and are you able to follow it?
My question is do you need to be a new O2 customer to recieve the £110 cash back?0 -
Can anyone tell me how i put a ringtone on my Iphone please.0

Hi. I am thinking about getting an iphone and am really interested in Option A outlined by brindleyx. What are you getting cashback from on Quidco as when I had a look all I could see was CB of upto £40 at o2 or 3% (£10) off the iphone at apple??0

Yeah I was wondering about this as well, has the offer recently changed?!
Also, if the price definitely had changed now then getting the phone on a 24 month contract would basically be the same cost per year as buying the phone then using the 12 month simplicity contract. Therefore, I was wondering what would be the benefit of getting the 12 month simplicity contract, rather than the 24 month one? Would it actually be possible to get a cheaper contract for your iphone once the simplicity contract expires in 12 months, or were people hoping to trade it in or something for the newer one? I don't fully understand the reasoning.

what do you have to do ? get a pay as you go o2 sim card and then add on the web bolt on? does that allow net and email on the iphone?0
