Mac or not?

Hmmm..some of you have a lot of free time today. This Mac versus Windows based machines debate is gonna go round and round in circles as it always does.
Personally, I would take the Mac over the Windows Machine that I have access to in the House anyday, and this is from a life long Windows user previously.0 -
There is way to many Mac fans in here so I give up, apple make fashion accessories, its cool to own one.
Well if you will insist on just ignoring the reasons people give for owning Macs, I doubt you'll ever understand, so I wouldn't worry about itI have to question that if Macs are the best computer why doesn't everybody buy them
Because they're more expensive, most computers in stores have Windows on them, some prefer Windows, and many people continue to talk (and presumably believe) the most ill-informed rubbish about Macs.why don't all software company's make here stuff work on them.
Use Microsoft Office? First released on the Mac.
Use Photoshop? First released on the Mac.
Anyhow, why don't all software companies make their stuff work on Windows?I go for maximum usage and compatibility that equals windows. I am happy my computers have more horse power for less money and don't come in white.
Perhaps for you. I use software and hardware that doesn't work with Windows. So you can all go and figure how to copy and paste on your iphone while messing on you macbooks and by happy while I am happy not doing anything of the sort.
*sigh*0 -
is the sigh because you need third party software?
I am not ignoring arguments for macs, they are very good computers, just the fact you can better for less elsewhere makes them a bit pointless.
Shall we agree to disagree on the OS and software thing? as it does factor in a lot of opinion and preferences. For my uses windows is better for your uses OS X is better.
I still stand my Macs are overpriced and comparing them to dell doesn't cut it for me as Dell are overpriced too. Its very well saying they have all these extras but I f I don't want them then I don't see why I should pay for them, they don't give me a cheaper option so PC it is.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

Well, see my reply to Idiophreak here. Just because something has more features than you need, it doesn't make it over-priced; simply extraneous to your own personal requirements.
Whatever premium might be involved in owning a Mac is more than worth it to me, as it means I can run Mac OS X hassle free. I have used Windows since Windows 3.1, and have had both Windows XP and Vista installed on my Mac at various times. I tried using Vista for about a month to see how it compared. Mac OS X ran faster on the same hardware, was easier to use, and had more powerful features.
I'm not a brainwashed Apple-fanboy; if Microsoft made a better OS, I would use it in a heart beat. But I have tried them all, and Mac OS X wins for me.
It does come down to personal preference, but I will say this: most Mac users have also used Windows, whereas most Windows users have not used Macs.0 -

There are way too many people I think you mean... (it's not its - oh I'm getting bored now...)
It's to do with history, Apple made the biggest mistake in the 1970s (if you count the early Apples) to 1980s (Mac) by not licensing their OS to run on any hardware, Bill Gates on the other hand licensed DOS to IBM, showing no interest in the hardware, other manufacturers copied the IBM PC making clones (legally) which could run DOS, then Windows etc.
What major software companies don't make their applications for Mac? As a professional with about 5 to 10Ks worth of software on both platforms, I've almost all on both platforms... Misinformation is the worst thing on these forums.
I love these sweeping comments and generalisations about people when one knows very little about others. I personally use various platforms for the task in hand - I'm not that fussed whether I'm using a Mac or PC, it's the Application software that is key to me and how it runs, some works better on PCs, some on Macs - that's my experience over 20+ years. However I'm happy to report that over these years of always owning and using both platforms, Macs are very capable, stable and fast - to say to the contrary is quite simply incorrect.I go for maximum usage and compatibility that equals windows. I am happy my computers have more horse power for less money and don't come in white. So you can all go and figure how to copy and paste on your iphone while messing on you macbooks and by happy while I am happy not doing anything of the sort.
I suspect they are too busy using all the clever apps, Google Maps, iTunes, cover-flow and the million and one other things the iPhone can do.0 -
I bought a Mac the other day £1500 quid
a Beautiful machine....but I just couldn't get use to it.....I guess I've been using windows far to long....can't teach a old dog new tricks comes to mind.
I took it back and got my money back (if you didn't know you have a 14 day period where you can take it back no questions asked).
I tried but just didn't like it...I found I was downloading all my windows programs because I was use to them......again I will say a beautiful machine but just not for me.If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
It's a pity you didn't persevere with it; if you had asked on here, I'm sure we could have recommended lots of Mac alternatives to your Windows programs.
Still, on the bright side, you're now £1,500 richer!0 -

You're probably right......and I hated the mouse BIG time....it was lots of little thngs rather than any one thing.....but Like I said a beautiful machine...just not for me.If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

You can use any USB mouse on a Mac, I've not been keen on recent Apple mice, I use a Microsoft intellimouse on mine, very comfortable because I use them both left and right handed.0 -

Oh, I love my Mighty Mouse. It works well for me as I hold my mouse funnily (almost diagonally in my hand), so my index finger rests where the right button would normally be. I can turn off the right click and just use the whole thing for left clicking.
My only gripe is the little scroll-ball, which is forever getting clogged up with dirt, and can't be removed for cleaning without taking the whole thing apart. Sometimes Apple do choose form over function, which can be annoying.0
