Absolutely! It's really puzzling that the Government want us to take public transport when they have little control over it, apart from increasing fuel duty and hitting ordinary people in the pocket AGAIN!

I also have to laugh at the amount of money they're pumping into the car industry, the industry that harms their green policies. I know there's a lot of jobs at stake, but if the industry is in serious trouble, when does the lending stop? There's also many other large employers who have went to the wall, bit of double standards me thinks.

Just noticed that First have increased their fares astronomically, yet again. -

First Day now £3.50 from £3.20
    2 Journey now £3.20 from £2.85
Single fares have increased as well

    What a joke

I can't believe you have the cheek to complain about these fares... Where else in the UK can you travel approx 50 miles (Helensburgh to Larkhall) for £3.50??!?? add this to the fact that you can use the ticket as much as you want, and until 1am also!!!

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, which is what this site is for, sorry if it doesn't fit with your opinion.

The point I was making was not necessarily the price of the fares, but the rise in the fares over the space of a year. This time last year and all day was £3; 2 journey was £2.50 (I think) and the weekly ticket was £12.50.

Also if you research you'll probably find London and Edinburgh are cheaper than Glasgow.

My student weekly bus ticket went up to £12.50 last week from £11.50. I know its only £1, but I could barely afford it as it was. Just seems unfair that when they hike up the prices it is always the weekly tickets that increase by £1 at a time, because some like me can only just afford it, especially when there are many other students like me out there who don't work.

This time last year inflation hadn't hit quite as badly. Fares have risen 10%. How much have other things risen by?
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

£1.20 single and £3.00 day ticket in Edinburgh, the buses are fantastic and reliable too!

I live in Edinburgh but spend a lot of time in Glasgow. Often use the bus in Edinburgh but NEVER in Glasgow - in Glasgow, it's too expensive, the buses are in a horrible state and other passengers on Glasgow buses make me feel quite uncomfortable, there seems to be a greater proportion of jakeys and bams on Glasgow buses compared to the Edinburgh buses.

Exactly, the buses usually aren't clean and smell lol, but I need to take them because the train station where I live, there are only few trains and it is a half an hour walk from my house. Whereas, there is a bus stop right across the road from me, but no way could I afford a zone card.

Was in Edinburgh on Thursday and was amazed that I could get half way across the city for £1.10! you are lucky in glasgow if that takes you from the marriott hotel to argyll street lol!

Just done some of this "research" on First Edinburghs website and notice that their firstday (£3.00) is for use within zone M only, which roughly covers Balerno - Tranent which is approx 20 miles... less than half of the distance covered by the ticket in Glasgow...!!

I'm unfortunate enough to come from inverclyde, the home of rip off fares and will probably never agree with anyone that complains about First Glasgow pricing...

    Each to their own.. lol...

I can't imagine there are many people who use the first day ticket for journeys of more than 20 miles. As sol00 says, it isn't so much the price of the individual tickets, but the % increase over the last couple of years that is difficult to justify. My £44 ticket for 4 weeks unlimited travel is good value, but this time last year it was £38 - take it from me, that's a big jump when your wage is frozen!
  • It doesnt matter how what the arguement is here, the fact is that it's still by far the cheapest option... I'm gutted that I have to use a zonecard... and that costs me £30+ per WEEK!!!!

Maybe that fact might be enough to explain why I will never agree with people moaning about the price of the bus tickets!!

As you know, not everyone lives in the city centre... and us less fortunate to live in the PA postcode area are heavily penalised with fares... Where I live I have 2 options, Mcgills buses or the train... both options are extremely expensive compared to first...
