Glasgow Bus Fares

so have their Lanarkshire weekly tickets. They started selling them about a year ago at £7.50, they have now risen to £10.50 (or £10 can't remember what my DD said). I have never seen a bus company that has so many price increases and can get away with it4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Completely agree. It's not the fact of the increases, I can understand if costs go up, although is fuel not less than it was last year? The problem I have is the amount they increase by. The last time they did this it was in the Evening Times, I can't see anything this time round though, even though the increases are even higher than last!0

Clareyocs, you just reminded me - they increased the weekly ticket from £13.50 to £14.50! Thanks lol
Looks like everywhere's getting it. 2 of the most expensive cities; London and Edinburgh seem to have the best public transport available. They should re-regulate them !0 -
First bus have an almost monopoly in Glasgow. Yes there are loads of bus companies running services here and there, but there isn't really any other company who run a comprehensive service around Glasgow, hence the reason why they get away with charging the prices they do.0
-
Yep that's the problem, they have most of the profitable routes and can get away with it. I assume Glasgow's one of many cities having the same problem.0

In Lanarkshire they seem to have bought up a lot of the competition. McKindless does a service into Glasgow for me but is so unreliable I have ended up getting a train home. Their drivers seem to cut bits out of the route to avoid traffic and stop half way if feel like it. Have started using the car more esp if there are a couple of us and would prefer to use public transport. It has to be both affordable and reliable.0

Which is why I just bought myself a bike, and now use it everywhere. It doesn't actually take that long to travel around town, and I don't have to think twice about wanting to do something outside the house because of the stupid fares.
Then again, the bike I got was £250, which should pay itself in 6months of travel - I had a free one I got from Freecycle, but it wasn't in a great state, and by the time I'd spent about £80 to get it fixed (and it still broke down two weeks later), I took the plunge and went for something more reliable.
The cycling paths around town are pretty good, so I'd definitely recommend it, especially with the sun coming out!I :heartpuls Procrastination.0 -

Where I stay in Lanarkshire the service IRVINES is really unproffessional and just come when they want & are really rude. The drivers talk on their mobiles and dont keep to the route.
The train is far more reliable and also I find cheaper as I have a railcard.
It costs £4.50 for a single to glasgow on Irvines ( and their buses finish at 6pm ! )and they too have increased their prices.
In fairness to First bus a lot of bus companies have increased their prices- at least their service is more frequent & proffessional.
However I do worry they have a monopoly- but there are no viable competitiors.
However the transport system in this country is a disgrace and anyone who doubts that should just look at Edinburgh city center at the moment.0
