Marks & Spencer - Paper Gift Vouchers M&S

I have £80 worth of M&S credit vouchers. I failed to see the signs indiucating they would no longer be accepted in stroe. However as their is no date on the vouchers M&S, i wrote to them requesting they uograde them to the current (recepit type) credit voucher.
They refused! Surely due to the fact that their is no date on the vouchers, M&S cannot simply make them invaid as it is still considered as "money" within the store?
Is anyone aware if there is something within the trading standards that prevent them from doing so?

I am SO cross about this. I deliberately used up all my dated vouchers and kept the undated ones in reserve!
The comment above about the amount of money M&S stand to make on this is staggering.
Apparently there is nothing we can do legally, but there must be thousands of people out there who have lost out. We need more publicity about this to shame M&S into doing the right thing. Does anyone know how to go about it?0 -
Is this the gift vouchers that you are all talking about?
Hope not I still have some left..............

The paper credit vouchers (that look like the gift vouchers), have stopped been given out for over 3 years. I can't imagine any other shop giving a credit voucher' life longer than a year, so I would say everyones had plenty of time to use them0

From the Guardian 12 September, in reply to a readers complaint about M&S.
"You effectively have a contract with M&S, having accepted the vouchers as a means of paying for future goods. Capital Letters contacted M&S but it is not prepared to budge. You may be able to argue that M&S is in breach of contract. Take out a summons in the small claims section of the county court and you have a reasonable chance of winning."
Answering your letters this week is Steve Playle, Trading Standards officer, and team leader at Surrey Trading Standards Service.0 -

I agree entirely.
Unless you either never shop in M&S, or have a really really large amount of vouchers, it's not going to take 3 years for you to use them. If it does, then I think it's just hard luck.
Here's another way to look at it. As far as I'm aware M&S only gives out credit vouchers for refunds it is NOT legally obliged to do. You only get credit vouchers when you return something without a valid receipt - a goodwill return. If something is damaged, faulty etc , they give you cash, even if you don't have the receipt. So they don't even need to give you the credit voucher in the first place.
For many shops, you only get a month to use a credit line, if indeed they give them at all. M&S is still by FAR the most generous. So if you've held on to a credit note for years, and now find it can't be used, it's a shame, but really your own fault.0 -
