Marks & Spencer - Paper Gift Vouchers M&S

  • Guys - I would like to clarify...

M&S HAVE stopped accepting the old style credit vouchers (the ones without a date).

M&S HAVE NOT stopped accepting gift vouchers (you can still use these).

You were able to exchange the old style credit vouchers up until April 12th originally - this was extended to June 12th. There were signs up in every store.

The old style credit vouchers you have are now worthless.

The new style credit voucher receipts do look like receipts and are valid for twelve months. Once these are expired, there is nothing you can do.

    HOPE THIS HELPS!

Hello, I've just been googling for M&S credit vouchers because M&S have just refused to accept £13 of my credit vouchers. I wasn't aware they had changed their policy on this (I don't shop at M&S very often). The credit vouchers have no expiry date on them - but they're from a fair while ago. What do I do now? Do I have any legal redress? Would threatening them with the small claims court be worthwhile for £13? I'd be quite happy to have them changed into a credit receipt or whatever they issue now instead. The manager at M&S Brent Cross wouldn't budge an inch and wasn't sympathetic.

Theres nothing you can do. They displayed signs instore and they have the right to stop the old style credit vouchers, I had to refuse 200 quids worth the day after they stopped them.

  • Is this because of the nature of the credit voucher? - they are a "good will" refund from M&S and they are not legally obliged to honour them anyway?

Yes, but theres always problems with paper vouchers due to fraud, and having an undated voucher which is paper is doubly troublesome.

I can assure you my credit vouchers are genuine (if a little dog-eared :-) )

I can see that legally M&S are in the clear. But I always though M&S were supposed to be better than the average high-street store when it came to customer service. Not any more it seems.

The fact they advertised their change in policy in store doesn't help occasional shoppers there like me. I only found out about this today!

I'm sure a lot of scummy people have abused their generous refund terms in the past, but now genuine people such as myself are out of pocket because of them.

I certainly won't be recommending M&S to any of my friends and family from now on. They now don't seem to be a lot better than horrendous Dixons or Comet or any of the other customer-unfriendly high street stores I've occasionally had to deal with in the past. May as well buy online as much as possible now; at least you can return things upto 7 days due to the distance selling regulations.

At least it's only £13 and not £200...

Would be a bit strange as the Daily Mail offer vouchers were paper ones and they have only just been issued (and probably spent by most people on here that had them)!

is that the 12 weeks half price for £50 ?
  • These uncashed M&S vouchers must amount to £millions. That £millions is delivered to their accounts at 100% profit - now that will have given their accounts a nice boost! So they are showing an artificially inflated profit - was this done to boost profit in a particularly difficult period. Are they deceiving Investors as well as ripping off customers? Shady.

My Mum of 82 went to pay for some clothing a in or around July and attempted to pay part cash and with £30 of credit vouchers I had given her ages ago. Gosh, she was confused when they tried to explain that they had stopped accepting them and that there had been notices in the store. Mum is of the age that she buys clothes to last and does not pop into M & S regularly. I go to M & S quite regularly and can honestly say I did not see any signs at the tills in Wood Green or Brent Cross. I do remember seeing an A4 sign telling about the new refunds policy that was sitting on the next
till point. I am wondering if many people saw these signs. In Wood Green there are till points with 4 tills but rarely are they fully occupied and generally at best only two cashiers are on duty. I really doubt whether all registers had a notice. I wrote to Head Office saying Mum only shops in M & S at the most twice a year. After a few emails back and forth they requested I send the vouchers to them and they issued a gift card to the value.
