I was recently told by customer services that M&S were still using paper gift vouchers as well as gift cards. They tried to phase out the paper gift vouchers about a year ago but lost a lot of business as firms like to give paper vouchers as incentives etc. When they could no longer get them the firms stopped using M&S. I myself much prefer to give paper vouchers rather than a card & I'm pleased I can now get them again.

    Hi

Just spotted this thread luckily enough as I had no idea about this.

I do have a couple of the "old" style paper credit vouchers lurking in my purse but they have no expiry date on them at all. How can M&S refuse to take them if they have no expiry date, surely this can't be right.

Please does anyone know whether the post further up this thread about having them transferred to a gift card is correct - has anyone done this?

Is the date definitely 22nd April - so I still have some time to either buy something or exchange them for a gift card if this can be done? Don't want to just lose them but have been saving them for a new arrival and wanted to buy some baby bits.

    Many thanks.

I asked in store and emailed head office about this and they confirmed that all paper credit vouchers (not the till receipt type ones) were to be stopped and I think the date was either 11th or 12th April.

Just to be on the safe side if I had any I would go and buy anything returnable from M&S and then take it back to get the till receipt type. Thats if they wont swop them over without a purchase.

I had a load of vouchers as wedding presents so took them to customer services and they put them on a card for me. They also updated the length of time I had to use them by. So I now have another 2 years rather than 6 months!

QUICK NOTE: :money:you simply need to get a balance check every so often to refresh the 2 year expiry :D so if you go instore after 1 year 11 months and 28 days [lol] and get a balnce enquiry this would give you another 2 years to spend the balence :) also all paper vouchers can be put on a card for free yes so you do not need to rush off to spend the vouchers now :)

  • Would be a bit strange as the Daily Mail offer vouchers were paper ones and they have only just been issued (and probably spent by most people on here that had them)!
This only applies to undated paper credit vouchers. The Daily Mail vouchers are completely different.
I myself much prefer to give paper vouchers rather than a card & I'm pleased I can now get them again.
I'm afraid you will be dissapointed, even though corporate customers may still be able to purchase paper gift vouchers, only gift cards can be purchased in stores.
How can M&S refuse to take them if they have no expiry date, surely this can't be right.
Presumeably they can if they give sufficient notice.
Please does anyone know whether the post further up this thread about having them transferred to a gift card is correct - has anyone done this?
Paper credit vouchers are different from paper gift vouchers and can not be transfered to a gift card.

Firstly if you were given paper gift vouchers as a wedding present they did not have an expiry date, secondly two years expiry is standard on gift cards.
all paper vouchers can be put on a card for free yes so you do not need to rush off to spend the vouchers now
All paper gift vouchers can be put on a gift card, not paper credit vouchers though.
    This is crazy
If you mean that M&S withdrawing undated paper credit vouchers can create so much confusion and debate, then yes I agree.

    Many thanks.

I haven't done that but I was mistakenly given a credit voucher (which I'd never seen before - didn't read it properly and assumed it was a duplicate receipt) & when I the assistant realised, she offered to put it onto a card.

Paper gift vouchers are fine - it's paper credit vouchers (which you got in the past if you took an item back) that have been withdrawn. As long as your vouchers say gift and not credit they'll be fine.
