before you passed your test?

My 1st test is next Thursday (in an auto) and im doing my best to put it to the back of my mind but its impossible! By the time thursday comes i will have done around 45 hours and i prob wont have needed all of that but i have booked a shed load this week just to try and up my confidence levels as i have pretty low self esteem and hate to go into anything feeling unprepared...

I had 7 lessons before I passed my test.

The only thing you can do is try & relax on the day of the test( easier said than done).
If you have put in the hours then you will be up to test standard. You can only try your best on the day.

    Good luck for the test.

the only advice I would give is to try to take one thing at a time during the test - if you make a mistake don't worry about it - concentrate on the next task as it isnt necessarily a failure. Good luck for the test

Whatever works to get you through. Wife eventually got throught hers by taking over the counter herbal calming pills of some description.

Failed first time after 5, passed with 12.
To pass my big bike test (didnt do direct access) took 5 lessons (also including a fail after 3).

Started learning to drive at 17, failed 3 tests in a year and gave up completely demoralised.

Began taking lessons again with a different instructor about 5 years later, had about 5 months of weekly lessons. Took test the day after having a tooth out and a brace fitted, felt rubbish - stalled at one junction and managed to pass. the times I'd failed I'd got really worked up beforehand, the 4th, I just didn't care.

I know how you feel - I get very nervous too! I know that other posters mean well, but I could never see it as "just another lesson" - I'm being tested and that makes me nervous!

I've had weekly lessons since October and have my test booked for the end of April - and I feel just the same as you! My lesson last week was awful and I made daft mistakes and felt really demoralised, thinking I'd never pass! But my lesson this week went well and I thought, maybe I can pass this!

My instructor said I will never feel ready (confident enough) to take a test, so I might as well get it done! National statistics show that 53% of tests result in a fail, so the chances are that you MIGHT fail. Just remember that some of it is down to luck and it depends on the conditions/examiner/route you get on the day! So if you did fail, it may not be your fault, and you've just got to "get back on the horse and ride again!"

This is my attitude: Make a conscious effort to keep as calm as you can and deal with each task as it comes, all the while trying to do the best you can! You know you can do it, provided you don't let the nerves get the better of you! You want to drive, so be determined to pass. It's only 40 minutes of your life - all you have to do is let them see you can do it - and you'll soon be driving your own car!

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

Loads. About 40 I would say. I had three tests, and the second there was a problem with the car which meant the test had to be rescheduled, but it completely unnerved me. Third test I passed and have gradually built up my confidence since then, so that now I would drive pretty much anywhere. My sister passed first time despite going over 30 in a speed limit!!

    Good luck.

good luck! *fingers crossed for you*
