  • Hee hee this is what I love about rabbits, the things they do seem so mysterious to us but probably make perfect sense to them!

Quite likely he is just doing it to entertain himself, maybe hoping to find something interesting under the pile - like an escape tunnel! The only other thing I can think of is that they do like to have some hay to munch on when they go to the toilet, so maybe he is trying to push the hay nearer his litter tray/toilet area?

Thanks for all replies!!! Yes, they are mad little things aren't they!!!! I think it's cos he done nothing out the ordinary for a good few months and now (he's now 9 months) he started doing odd things like pooing in his bowl and this shifting around of the hay!!! Daft bunny!!!!

To answer lauranurse, his hay was right in front of his toilet area before he started shifting....ah well, all good exercise for him. Must keep him amused for a good while!!

He also has this toy which is in the shap of a carrot but has something rattling inside in and some rattan style stuff on the outside and the rattan is all splayed and the toy keeps moving so he must be having good fun with that too!!:D

Thay can be fussy little things. Within a couple of hours of cleaning our bunnys cage out, he'll have it completely re-arranged and just how he likes it. He sort of stretches his paws forward and wiggles a bit to pull the hay apart so it's easier to move. It's hilarious to watch, and sometimes he will end up UNDER the hay!

TANITH - you shouldn't move their trays. It's a territory thing, so it should stay in the same place or they have to start re-marking the territory again, whcih can get stressful for them!

Its not a case of us moving it , she has a two level cage and she herself sometimes knocks it downstairs and then the 'proverbial' hits the fan so to speak... she will do it anywhere including her bed until its put back where she likes it...

We bought a rabbit a few months back and then another a couple of weeks after that, they get on well..too well at timesemotion-10.gif and are both male! The problem with them is that they have eaten loads of the cage, it cost a fortune and we have bought them a big run to go with it and they have desicated it already which is annoying me as together it is a lot of money going down the drain..
IF it is their teeth should they be like this when we bought them (both around (16 weeks ish) and if not is there anything else we can do about it or is it normal ?
    Thanks
  • I know if you are trying to keep rabbits off flowers that pepper works well.
Try mixing some black pepper with water and brushing it on the areas they are chewing. You will soon find they will lose interest.

I'd suggest getting them 'done' my male bun was very destructive (& excitable with slippers...) until he had the op. He's been fine ever since, and doesn't even chew wires which was his favourite snack :)
Wondering how to have a life & not rack up more debts...
  • rabbits need a constant fresh supply of hay and that helps minimise them eating other stuff
