My friend has just bought a lovely with a drive and a garage at the end of it.She moved in a couple of weeks ago and soon found the a car (Clio)will not go down the drive as it is too narrow. it cant even sit on the front part of the driveas it overhangs the footpath. I know its probs her own fault for not checking with a tape measure (who would?) but should the vendor/solicitor/surveyor not have pointed this out?
Funny tho!

Yes, but they didn't. She could see (another) solicitor & be advised if she has a case but i wouldnae give her much of a chance ..
Yup, 'tis funny tho..
There are worse problems in today's world... She at least has a house & a car and a good friend!
Cheers!

What a rubbish garage if a Clio wont even fit in it!Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

When we were selling a house the EA said he would not put 'parking for two vehicles' even though you could easily fit four standard size cars on the drive because it could be considered to be contractual and the purchaser could have complained that their two Hummers wouldn't fit.
What did the details say? Is it described as parking for one vehicle or similar? Does it state 'off road parking'?
If it's a 1930s house then lots have drives and garages that won't fit modern cars. I remember on Property Ladder somebody blocking off the back of a double garage to make a utility room. They left the double door on and when Sarah Beeny saw it she said that most people, who didn't check, would assume it was a garage.0 -
"" I know its probs her own fault for not checking with a tape measure""
you have answered your own question - CAVEAT EMPTOR = buyer beware - yes she should have got her tape measure out
no good trying to blame anyone else.....0 -

There is always one! State the obvious, My question was aside from that which I clearly stated0 -

If you check carefully, you'll find you didn't 'state clearly' what she'd purchased. My friend has just bought a lovely with a drive and a garage at the end of it.
...Or is that 'obvious' too?0 -
Afraid no one is to "blame" but the buyer. I know people who have bought houses only to find the bed wont fit in the bedroom. Only thing your friend can do is buy a Smart!0

As others have said, buy a Smart Car - the drive must be extemely narrow if a Clio can't get down it. Do you have any pictures available?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -

I would.
What should the vendor/solicitor/surveyor have pointed out? As far as they're aware, your friend may not even own a car. Not every house buyer does. What should they have said?0 -
""but should the vendor/solicitor/surveyor not have pointed this out?"
no - no - and no - your friend is trying to blame others for her own lack of foresight - suggests she buys a smaller car0
