Triton Credit Services

My husband and I had a current account with Natewest that we got into a little trouble with on the overdraft, so we closed it and agreed to pay off so much per month to try pay it off.
I also have an ISA account with NatWest which untill recently had about £900 in it, went in today to draw some money out of it to find that the funds had been transferred to pay off the overdraft.

So went to the enquires desk to try get it sorted out, and I find out after being transferred on the phone to 2 different departments that my overdraft and ISA had been passed over to Triton Credit Services(first time I'd heard of it. As far as I was aware it was being dealt with by NatWest).
So the woman on the phone from triton told me that due to the fact I had available funds in my savings they could offset it against my overdraft without giving me any notice or informing me that this was due to happen.

Can someone please tell me if this is allowed? I've never once had a letter from Triton to say they were dealing with my overdraft or savings, any letters I have had about it has had Natwests logo on them. Is this not just stealing?

I hope someone can clear this up forme as I really need the money and this whole situation today has brought me to tears.

    Hello,

    Sorry to hear your news.

I believe the banks can legally do this on accounts held within a "named" bank. I'm not sure if it is legal between business groups, for example, you hold a RBS account which is clean but have debt with Natwest and the latter offsets funds from the former. Could someone please clarify if offsetting between business groups is legal.

    Thanks in advance

I think Natwest can take your money that you have with them for something else you have with them! (I think this is completely unfair however but it's why we get told to change accounts when starting a debt management plan).

BUT I don't know if the same can be said if it's been passed on. maybe Triton are an internal part of Natwest (Altho I have them on another RBS debt I have). And especially if they hadn't even told you it had been handed over, it doesn't seem quite right!

Sorry tho not much help on whether it is actually allowed or not! If i was you I'd give National debtline a call and ask them!

I've never even heard of triton credit services, and today was the first time I found out that my accounts had been passed over to them. I've tried to do a search on them but can't find any information.
I mean how can they take my money when I've not been informed that their dealing with my account.

Triton are the "internal" debt collectors for Natwest

Do you think it would be worth complaining? As I was never told it was being passed over to them?

    Hi All,

Just opened my Fathers Day cards and had a phone call from 0845 301 5139 Triton Credit Services. What a lovely fathers day call - NOT!

    This is regarding thread: forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=2303181

This woman "Helen" demanded I paid the 12k outstanding within 7 days, of which I said I was on £0.10p per week jobseekers Allowance and could not and that the loan is covered under a RBS PPI policy which should pay this off whilst I am unemployed and this is an official complaint with the Banking Ombudsman.

She said she was not bothered and wanted payment now or it would go to court. I begged her to take me to court :p. I also said that you should not be harassing me on a Sunday at 09.30am. She said we can ring you anytime! I asked to speak to a manager and she said there was not any managers to talk to!

I said that I would not continue this conversation.

Bloody cheek of these people (owned by RBS). I thought that companies could not chase money / debts on a Sunday?

    Thanks,
    Dave

Opening hours tend to be 9am-4pm (ish) on weekends, as 4pm is the latest they can work on a Sunday.

Go to CAB/CCCS etc. work out how much you can afford and come to an arrangement with Triton to pay something off while you are unemployed.

If your PPI is not doing the job, head over to the reclaiming charges forum and see what you can do about reclaiming it.

    Hi Dave,

1.) They are well with in there rights to call you on sundays and any other day as long as its after 8AM and no later than 9PM.

2.) Dont worry about them taking you to court as there are certain
Criteria’s you have to meet before any action can be taken against you and being in full time empolyment is one of them. :p
