Lossie is a nice place and the ice cream shop is very good! yum. It has plenty buses to elgin and from there you can take a bus or a train to inverness or aberdeen or further afield. There are loads of shops and it is not dying any slow death = I live the other side of elgin about 18 miles from there and go regularly to shop in elgin and of course there are supermarkets in lossie too.
Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j

lossie and elgin have an ok selection of shops, tesco and asda etc are the main shops in elgin, depends if you are used to living with a great array of shops near, yes elgin could be better but its a lovely little town and if you want a better selection of shops then as said there is inverness and aberdeen, good for daytrips out

beaches are lovely round here, great for walks with the dogs:D plenty of woodland walks too

my brother is in the raf, could have asked him but he is away for a few months just now
  • Speaking as a local , the shops in Elgin are now dominated by tesco and asda just by sheer convenience of having everything under one roof and easy parking. Parking in Elgin can be a nightmare especially on a Saturday. But it is still nice to have a walk round the shops on the high st. Lossie is nice, I used to work there for a short time. I would love to stay at the coast and be near the beach. I prefer going to Aberdeen rather than Inverness, although Inverness feels more compact than Aberdeen. Theatre is great and has some good shows. Hope you enjoy your stay here and venture futher into Moray and beyond !!

  • We lived in Elgin for several years and I absolutely loved the area. Within short driving distances you have so many different kind of places and scenery. Spey Bay, all the little villages on the coast etc. Go a bit to the south and you suddenly find yourself in the middle of nowhere with not even sheep around. And as someone mentioned the beach in Lossiemouth. Seeing the white sand you would not believe you are in Scotland.
You do have to get used to the weather, though. I can only remember one hot summer during my years in Scotland and I usually had to travel to my native country further up north to find warmer weather:rotfl:(Yes, it was difficult for the Scots to understand that summers actually are warmer in the Nordic countries)
I haven't been there since 2003 so I'm sure the area has changed but the people are lovely and I got lots of good friends during my stay.

What can I say about Lossie. Great place lovely beaches and great walks. Icecream shop is the best in Scotland and the Harbour Tearoom is a must. You will need a warm jacket and definately gloves and a scarf as everyone from the south thinks it is cold when the wind blows( even in the summer). You will enjoy your time up here peace and quiet and lovely views of the sea. The harbour is full of wee sailing boats. The best shops are in Inverness though I prefer Aberdeen. Asda and Tesco and a small M&S in Elgin and for those that say the major supermarkets have taken over you have also Gordon and Macphail the deli and whisky shop up the back street in Elgin. Next have also opened a new shop in Elgin as have a few other chains. The locals are great and will be very welcoming. Hope you enjoy your time there. :j

Oh, I almost forgot; the Skerry Brae in Lossie Village does a brilliant chicken and haloumi salad...

Does anyone live in Elgin? Just found out this is where our house will be, just wondered if anyone would be willing to take photos for me?

    Hi,
I live in Elgin in the new married quarters, Where is your allocated house?
We moved up to Elgin last year from Valley( North wales) Elgin is a huge improvement! The kids have settled in really well and the local surrounding areas are all lovely, and the locals are all very friendly and welcoming.
Let me know where your allocation is and I will go and take some photo's for you and let you know where it is as there is rather a lot of quarters in Elgin on both sides of the town, I can also find out which schools are your catchment area if you would like me to.
