I used to spend anywhere between £5-7 a day on lunch - which was madness because I worked at a place where we had a canteen and a free lunch allowance! (the food was really grim though!)

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker Debt-free and Proud!
Magazines, and random "Treats" for my kids that they really weren't bothered in the slightest about, and would be put in a draw to never see the light of day again within a day of getting them.
    May 2015 £10 a day currently £208
  • I am also really working on the fact that I am a hoarder by nature - I hate getting rid of stuff. Its so extreme that I even hate using the foods in my cupboards/fridge/freezer - its so stupid - I drive myself mad!

I used to do this too, kidded myself I was being smart and my 70's platforms would come back into fashion at some point. Then I had to clear my mum's house and realised 9/10ths of her stuff had either not been used for years or only used rarely. So..........I had my lightbulb moment taking 60+ bin bags full of worthless stuff to the tip for her.
I now work in the principle of 'one in - one out'. :D

I used to spend my money on anything and everything. I even went to the nail shop for someone to paint my toenails on a weekly basis....

    Ohhh!!!!! Fab post SS!!

    Well where do we start......

Cigarettes - 5 days without thank the lord.
This top is amazing. Ohhh I'll def slim into that in just a couple of weeks and I just know it'll look fab.
Amazing!! this cleanser, toner and moisturiser will finally give me perfect skin, i'll bin the half used stuff and buy this, if it sorts out my skins its a bargain at £99!!
This detox diet sounds great, I'll chuck away all the perfectly fine food in my fridge , which of course is highly toxic, what was I thinking!! And buy 3 tonnes of organic mung beans which have been sprouted on the thighs of young virgins. Yum! I'll definitely stick to this diet, yes I mean it! It really sounds delicious. Its worth spending more when you can be ethical and not contribute to waste.
Oh Kebab, well if I have one tonight it will 'get it out of my system' better have wine too, just to ensure a clean slate tomorrow...
That diet was rubbish, am going to bin the mung beans, they will never work am going to buy normal food.
Those magazines say they can change my life! Today!! I'll buy them all to ensure I don't miss any essential tips! I can look like I've lost a dress size by tonight! I'm sure that finally this time it won't be just to stand up straight, because I already do!! No this time it will be 'the answer' it must be!
OK this mirror does not go with my current decor, but I really really like lime green and it might go with my next flat and then I'd be devasted if I passed up the opportunity. I'll buy it and store it away.
Amazing!! this cleanser, toner and moisturiser will finally give me perfect skin, i'll bin the half used stuff and buy this, if it sorts out my skins its a bargain at £199!!
Ugghh, lime green, I hate lime green why the hell did I buy that??
This diet is the way forward, I'll chuck away all the perfectly fine food in my fridge , and eat nothing but tomatoes plucked by monks at midnight on the second day of the month. Yum! I'll definitely stick to this diet, yes I mean it!
Well I think thats it important that I have that Pizza tonight, and beer, I must eat it as a way of saying goodbye, its 'closure.' Yes eat Pizza then fresh start with new life and monk tomatoes tomorrow. Wonderful.
That diet was rubbish, will never work am going to bin it and will buy normal food.
Wow!! Thats such a bargain... Hold on, what do you mean some one else wants a go??
Grumpy now, was telling you about all my life changing bargains!!
  • LOL what a great thread! Reading everyone's post bought my bad habits screaming back to me! I too used to pop into Boots for a sandwich (in the day's I bought my lunch everyday) and walk out with £20 worth of stuff I didn't need. Expensive make up...and lots of it. Now I swear by Rimmel & have the basics. Buying any cosmetic that was on offer, regardless if needed it - including buying expensive wrinkle cream when I was 19!!!!! I was also a fan of the Ben n Jerry's club-I couldn't bring myself to treat us to a pot of that stuff the other week...HOW MUCH!!!??? Going on holiday on my CC - probably still paying for it now. CONSOLIDATION.....ARGH!!! Buying magazines I never read, DVD's & CD's every week & just general tat. All ebayed of course! Wow I feel better for just laughing at my passed self. Good thread SS!

  • When I think what my money used to go on, crikey!!!!!

I used to buy my lunch every day, upwards of £5, plus endless magazines!! I used to buy them if they had something free with it because it didn't matter that the mag cost £4, there was something FREE with it! Used to drive my boyfriend bonkers!!!

I used to eat takeaways ALL the time, very very rarely used to cook. And if I didn't get a takeaway, I would treat myself to dinner, wasn't a treat really as I used to do it regularly!!!!!!! How stupid of me!!

Bags were my poison though, used to buy a new bag just about every week!! Was a running joke between dad, boyf and bro!!

It was funny at the time, but now I owe £7000+!!!!!!! I did enjoy myself while doing it, but it's time to get sensible and get rid of the debt then I can spend my own money!! But now I've discovered MSE I'm finding it very difficult to actually part with my money now!! Anyone else noticed this??!!

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:

Haven't laughed so much in ages, would press the thanks button more than once if I could. Perfectly summed up the "spend spend spend" and quick fix mentality!
