Fuel duty rise tonight

  • All this after Gordon said there would be no price rise on fuel for one year. Looks like he broke his own promise. I am pretty sure it was less than a year ago he said this, unless someone can prove me wrong.

Just in case you have forgotten or did not know, fuel duty goes up by 2.12p a litre from midnight tonight.

I no longer travel far to work but I sympathise with those who do unless of course your an MP and can claim for such things

Our garage has recently put its prices up by about 7p per litre, yet if you go to Ipswich it is still at 88p.

Gordon broke a promise :rotfl: I find that really difficult to believe!!

Actually on the 16th July 2008 Gordon said "In recognition of the problem people face with petrol, we are freezing duty on petrol for the full year".

Edit, you can watch him saying it here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7509245.stm

Thanks for digging that up. No doubt he will weasel out of it by claiming the "full year" meant 2008, not the tax year 08/09.

I think he backdated his promise or something so it runs out today. Look out for the next budget in a few weeks.

The ceiling price people will pay for fuel has gone up after all that happened in 2008 so they can stick loads more tax on and it still be lower than what we were paying before, and then when the VAT reduced rate ends back up a little more.

Oh begger......that's the nicer loo roll out the window, back to economy loo roll now!

If I were you Sue, I'd cut back on something else, and stick with good loo roll that greaseproof paper stuff is horrible.

I use cheap loo paper, not the greaseproof stuff, but cheaper stuff. Not least because the ''nice'' stuff is very ''ungreen'' but also because frankly, loo roll is quite near the 'bottom' of my list of priorities in life.

FWIW, I think we have to accept that we need to start paying something towards the massive spending outgoings.

Remeber the stuff in the 80's/ 90's in public toilets.

What the hell were they thinking, smearing paper.

And the risk of paper cut was very high:D

Bronco toilet paper! You had a choice of the smearing side or the not remotely absorbent side.

The prices around here (North Leeds) went up on Friday by 2p for Unleaded, 86.9p to 88.9p.

The Diesel was steady at 96.9p

I've got a nice 500mile round trip this weekend so there goes todays paypacket

Thats cheap! This morning at Tesco, Unleaded was 91.p per litre. Diesel has been over a pound per litre for ages, not sure what it is exactly.
