you can get it from that site as well:wordsearch wrote: »Thanks, that worked that time. But now Malware Bytes won't work as it says that it does not support the newest update. Obviously all the normal download sites aren't working so I will go searching for an odd site that has it!

That one doesn't work for me but I have managed to hunt it down elsewhere - thank you very much for helping though!
It's only been running for three minutes and has already found 2, oo-er, LOL

Am I right in saying you dont have any anti virus software installed?:idea:0 -
Done!
Yeah - I thought malwarebytes would be enough to be honest. I learnt my lesson haha, I have gone all over cautious on my laptop with three programs scanning daily. Takes an age to download anything!
Malware is still running, it's only just started on the documents and settings after 15 minutes so I predict it will take many hours. But thank you very much for your help as I would never have got anywhere near this far otherwise!0 -
Download AVIRA ANTI VIRUS PERSONAL (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION') ~ its your new main av
http://www.filehippo.com/download_antivir/
run a scan with that when you can (assuming you CAN download it):idea:0 -
I was actually just working on that, haha. Avira is the main one on my lappy and I love it so I've been trying to find a download site that will let me get it for a few hours now.
I'll leave that and malware running while I wonder off and stop slowing them down - thank you so much again for all your help! I have been having these problems with this for so long and no one has been able to help before, so thank you so much!0 -
Thank you to everyone who took the time to help me with this!
It didn't completely get rid of it as it was still a bit wobbly, BUT, something you guys suggested did at least get rid of whatever was blocking me from reinstalling XP, as I was able to do it and I have a nice fresh system - of course, no one remembers where the internet disk is or how to install it, but we'll get there
For some reason I now have Windows XP Home listed twice when it loads up (like on the menu when you're choosing what mode to boot in, both are now listed by default) but I can definitley live with that, especially as the shiny new version is the one listed first.
So thank you very much to everyone who helped me! I have been struggling with this for a while and I really, really appreciate it.0 -
It means youve physically installed 2 xps
Id REALLY suggest you try again and run a FULL format then install xp on that (As the hard drive could well still be infected):idea:0 -

if you select the second entry, does it load windows?wordsearch wrote: »I'm not sure what you mean by that? As I did the full reinstall of XP that is supposed to wipe everything.
if it does, then switch it off quickly (hold the power button in) so that it doesnt infect the new installation of xp.
if it throws up an error message, then you only have 1 copy of xp installed and you can delete the entry from the bootloader0
