My mum went to B&Q with her dimensions, etc, they priced up the kitchen (they have the computer design thingy too) and a local builder fitted it for her. Half the price of the Magnet 'all inclusive' quote.

will go have a nose, have a B&Q warehouse very close by
  • We just had our kitchen which we bought from betta living fitted and i have to say it looks amazing! really top quality. I have read some of the reviews and can honestly we never went through any of that stuff but i will pass on this tip for anyone wanting to save some serious money, What you should do is give their trade dept a ring which i did and got a designer round called tony who did a fantastic design and gave me a quote for 14 cabinets in the textured walnut plum with aubergine for £3500 without any appliances or fitting, normally that would have cost £8000 just for the cabinets!
yes they do come as a flatpack which was no problem as my fitters put them together really quickly who i may add also worked for moben and kbbc they even said that the quality is very high and they were like in the top end of the market. i bought all my appliances from ebay for example a hotpoint induction hob which was brand new for £250 rrp £679.00 and a siemans oven for £200 rrp £600 so saved tons! their customer care was lovely and i should say a big thanks to steve healey who works in post installation dept who was brill as the wife changed her mind regarding the handles right at the last minute and he very kindly swapped them over to the t-bar which we received the next morning down here in wapping london.
So my kitchen all in cost me £7000 where normally by going the other route would have cost me £15000. very very satisfied! :)

... we only JUST started looking around for kitchen quotes etc and really just visited about 3/4 showrooms and started to to get people in for quotes.

We live in Manchester in a small semi detached house, the kitchen is only 11 square metres!

So anyway we got this guy from Ultimate Kitchen Furniture in the house for OVER 3 hours, and although he did make some good designs suggestions, he obviously wanted to close the sale there and then, being very pushy, usual call to the manager etc etc. Now I'm a nice guy but I'm not going to b pushed around to make such a decision, especially when he started to mention stuff like the offer only being available today etc etc.

The units were solid built and not flat packed which is what I understand I should be looking for and appliance wise we'd keep our fridge and washing machine.

The quote was for from a "standard" £9k plus, to the £5.8k for the early slot, to the rock bottom £.£4.3k which as he said would only be available today and only if I got his available slot of 13-20 April! I told him I wouldn't decide after only having seen one person, he got quite peed off and to be honest way too pushy for my taste.

    So my questions:

anyone can recommend an independant in the Manchester area and any tips to deal with Betta Living salesman who I'll be seeing tomorrow? Don't want another 3 hours bloody marathon!:rotfl:

Kick the salesman into touch. You will only be paying him a fat commission for nothing.

My parents used a firm called Woodfit (Chorley) for their units. Good quality and no middle man. Then got themselves a recommended kitchen fitter.

The only downside to it was that YOU plan it yourself and work out all the bits and pieces... hinges, screws, doorfronts etc.

If you do it this way you save a bundle, as you cut out the planner and salesman so will get a good quality kitchen for much, much less.

If you aren't confident at the planning and inventory bit, do you know someone who will do it for you? relative or friend?

My mum did it all herself, but then she liked all the working out side of it!:)

They do have a comprehensive catalogue, so with a bit of time and working out you should get exactly what you want.

    Good Luck!

PS Just realised I answered an old post! Hopefully someone else will get some benefit!
